Some things of interest to me from this story:
I don't recall reading about this type of thing. I'm pretty sure it's rare.
The airline said it was put on a "special carousel for this type of item." That's a new one on me. My pistols have always come out on the same carousel as everything else. I will say that everytime I have checked a gun, my bag was one of the first ones out the chute at the destination airport.
