Shooter was naked from the waist down. And escaped.

Heroic patron disarmed shooter, whereupon the shooter fled.

Weapon is an AR of some make.

Just when things were dying down, media-wise, on the gun-control front the grabbers get something to flog for another week or so.

Following the arrest, Reinking was interviewed by Tazewell County, Illinois authorities and the FBI. His Illinois firearms authorization was revoked and authorities seized four firearms, including the AR-15.

Police said the guns were given to Reinking's father, who has said he gave them back to his son.

Any bets on whether that turns out to be an illegal interstate transfer?  And weather Dad gets charged if it is?

What kind of surprised me was that there was no one in the Waffle House able to return fire. That is usually the place that things like this don't work out well because of the armed patrons.

Because it is in Illinois?  Or maybe because the people at Waffle House at 3am are either coming back from the bar or taking a lunch break from their all-night shift.  Neither group will typically carry a CCW.

I've added this incident to my tabulation. I assume from comments that Waffle House is not a gun-free zone, so I've recorded it that way.

I still have a couple of blanks in regard to the Google HQ shooting two weeks ago. Did she obtain her gun legally, and was Google a gun-free zone? (I assume it was gun-free, but does anyone know for certain?)

While Waffle House does have a company-wide policy banning guns, law enforcement is excepted from the rule. However, the chain's corporate communications department told Eater yesterday that as a franchise-owned outlet, the location in question may enforce slightly different rules. The restaurant could not be reached for further comment today.

Thanks for that heads up. I was unaware of Waffle House's (newish) policy. I always thought they were firearms / CCW friendly. While the guy in the news article may have brought his problems on himself, the overall policy is noted.

Sadly, that only helps my case. I started the spreadsheet with the thought that hard statistics would help demonstrate that making places "gun-free" doesn't in any way guarantee that guns will not be used to commit crimes in those locations. It should come as no surprise that the numbers are supporting that hypothesis.

Waffle House is never gun free when I go because it is always around midnight to 3am on a Friday or Saturday night. Yeah no. Went to one so rough that it was closed down and abandoned next time I passed through. Gastonia, NC rough town. My local Hampton VA one was a hoot, five armed guards who were all useless except for oxygen conversion. I used to stop in the one in Fredericksburg where the beltway snipers shot someone at the gas station next door. They were rather tense the night the duo struck again a bit down the road. And here I am in a white truck with an AR-15 under the seat...

No, WH is just too weird to be gun free.
