Wife is in labor with #1 right now.  She's been having contractions for 22 hours

She was not amused at hearing about your 2 hour wonder.  At all.

Have you tried a pogo stick?

He was probably using something other than a pogo stick. Could be interesting, though.

Not to trivialize what your wife is going through, but the short labors are usually FAR more intense.  TANSTAAFL and all that.  It's not like you just take 20 hours off your wife's experience.  The sub 1-hr labor with Thing 2 was almost enough to put her off having any more kids.  She was totally out of control and completely lost her ability to cope.  The 2 hours was still incredibly intense, but far better on the coping scale.  She still didn't really get any breaks (less than 30 seconds at a time) from the contractions for the last 45 minutes or so.

The worst part of those long labors seems to be the exhaustion from not being able to sleep.  Seems like 4-5 hours is about ideal.

Right. There are certainly drawbacks to very fast, hard labor.

46 hours not so much, but (if I may slightly hijack your thread, my daughter was born this morning.

Yikes.  46 hours just plain sounds awful.  Hope everyone was OK at the end of all that.

Unless I've been sleepwalking across the country I think I'm safe from that charge.  :)
