Title: Three Senate Republicans cave on porkulus bill
Post by: Monkeyleg on February 07, 2009, 01:40:19 AM
Why can't the damn Republican leadership keep Snow, Collins and Specter in line? Oh, boy. They really trimmed the pork out of this sow, didn't they?

Story here. (http://townhall.com/news/politics-elections/2009/02/06/deal_announced_on_emergency_stimulus_plan)

Tax breaks for buying a new house? For buying a new car? (Why did I just "splurge" and buy a 2007 when I could have gotten free money to buy a 2010?). Food stamps? Extended unemployment benefits?

Every last one of these sumbitches should be taken out and shot.

Party labels have become irrelevant; other deeper criteria matter far more.

But, yes, it's time to name names and take no prisoners.  We need to work aggressively to unseat all enemies of liberty.

That begins with but doesn't end with The Two Weird Sisters of Maine and S.P.E.C.T.E.R.

The majority of Mainers are panicking. Things are really bad up here.

I'm really disappointed right now to see Collins and Snowe joining the panic. I'm embarrassed, even.

Hoping this isn't a sign of a shift in their representation. I thought they were working to get the stimulus pretty well gutted. I was wrong.  =|

Cool.  I'm gonna buy a new house, a new car, quit my job and live off the Gubment.  That's my plans for 2009.

I'll decide what I want to do in 2010 after they pass the next stimulus bill.

I guess they didn't get the memo from makattak in time.....

And on that little matter of funding for...ACORN?

http://rkdpolitics.blogspot.com/2009/02/41-billion-to-acorn-amendment-to-stop.html

"4.1 Billion to Acorn - amendment to thwart, fails.
07Feb2009Posted by Arkady Labels: 2009 economy recovery act , ACORN

Yesterday the Senate was debating the merits of the "bi-partisan" efforts after which they voted on several amendments. One that should make every American's blood boil is an amendment proposed to by John Vitter yesterday. It was a very simple amendment, just strip out 4.1 Billion to ACORN. After all, an organization that has so clearly chosen a partisan effort, is being investigated and prosecuted in over 10 states and is by all definition a radical left outfit should NOT be subsidized by taxpayer money. In fact, it is amazing that there is even any discussion here what so ever. The amendment was struck down 51 to 45.

Breakdown of vote:

Republicans, all voted AYE.

The following Democrats also voted AYE.

Sen. Max Baucus [D, MT]
Sen. Evan Bayh [D, IN]
Sen. Robert Byrd [D, WV]
Sen. Kay Hagan [D, NC]
Sen. Ben Nelson [D, NE]
Sen. Jon Tester [D, MT]
(send them a nice note)

The rest of the 49 traitors, err, Democrats voted NAY.

Note: For those confused by the number. There are 3 senators abstaining from voting (Gregg, Hutchinson and Kennedy) plus MN' senate seat is being disputed in court (Coleman/Franken) so the senator totals are 96.

Could it be that this provision will be line-item vetoed by Obama? Unlikely, considering he worked for them. The rest of the people who supported this have absolutely no shame and regardless of your political affiliation, striking down this amendment should be offensive to the core."

They could have stopped it. Instead....

If there were a generic one-word expression for one "whose fear of the uncertainties of success moves him to surrender at the very moment of victory", it would be "Republican".

As soon as I saw the title of the thread "Three Senate Repblicans cave . . . " I KNEW - I mean, I KNEW which three it was, without reading any further.

I'm just shocked that as many as THREE Republicans showed some intelligence.

Because hanging a $780b millstone o' pork around the neck of me and my children is such a deal

(and, no, I didn't like the first bailout one bit. Most of America was against it, too, if I recall)

S'cuse me?

You going to support assault weapon bans now, too?

Listen up boyos.

Obama's cheerleader is here to help us find our way to the promised land.

He has the answers. If only we hard nosed, knuckle dragging conservatives would just agree to be re-educated then everything will be hopey changey peaches and cream with fuzzy kittens cuddles.

Perhaps I misunderstand.  Do you actually support Obama's pork spending plan?

I called my two milkwater Senators (Kyl and McCain) and told them that I refused to accept the debt incurred by this bill on myself, let alone on the shoulders of my children and grandchildren.  That I expected a flat "no" to any supposed stimulus bill, and that the market would recover just fine without government intervention.  That another Gang of Fourteen would be sign that McCain needs replacing by JD Hayworth.

Thanks.....these appear to be the Second-Hand type of lions.

But I sure don't agree with Obama on everything.

I disagree with several of his Cabinet choices (Hillary?) as being way too far to the right politically.  I think Obama's Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel is dangerous.  I disagree with the continuation of the cowardly Predator Drone attacks murdering men, women, children and grammas in Pakistan.

But on this stimulus program.....listen to the people who are smart enough to string some words together and make a sentence.

They all say it has to be done.....ugly, but there's no choice.

If you think Hillary Clinton is too far to the right . . . you must revere people like Gus Hall and Angela Davis.

Like James Buchanan? The Nobel laureate?

Oh, wait he's against the package.

Edward Prescott? Another Nobel laureate?

Oh, wait he's against the package.

Like Michael Gibbs at the University of Chicago?

Oh, wait he's against the package.

Deepak Lai? At the UCLA?

Oh, wait he's against the package.

David Henderson, at Stanford?

Also against the package.

But I suppose all those people can't put a pair of coherent sentences together.

"They" all say it has to be done?  ALL of them?

You must have a very skewed sampling of economists.  Most of the ones I read and respect are against this particular pork spending bill.

Perhaps you could explain why you and "they" all feel this bill would be helpful.  Go into specifics, not just vague platitudes and generalities.

Heck, I'd just settle for you defining who "they" are.  Give me a list of all those savvy economists who say the pork bill would improve the economy.

HTG,

Save it.

Logos is no longer a member of APS, so he won't be giving you that definition.
