I wonder why this guy's Mustang won't sell?
« on: July 03, 2010, 07:23:23 PM »
Last November a guy posted a Mustang for sale over on one of the Mustang forums. You can view the car here.

In the original photos the entire car was that baby blue which, if you read the replies, was not well-received. What's worse, he couldn't sell the car. He's been trying for over seven months.

Now, if that were me--which it would never be, as I do have at least some taste--I would consider repainting the car. This owner did just that, but rather than paint it something more conventional, he went with the tri-color paint job you see now in the photos. Plus he added that atrocious pregnant-looking hood.

I once saw a Jaguar XKE coupe that the owner had painted safety orange. He'd added a hood scoop and air scoops on the sides of the body just forward of the doors. That car is still the most horrible "custom" car I've ever seen, but this Mustang may be a close 2nd.

I wonder what his wardrobe is like?

First thing that came to mind.  =)

I recall the eye-pain it caused the first time 'round.

All that effort, and...
1. It is still a fugly POS
2. It still has a V6.

Monkeyleg, your car looks pretty nice.  And good observation about customizing vs. resale value.

2. It still has a V6.

Have you heard about the 2011 Mustang V6?  The numbers are quite impressive for a V6 and it gets pretty dang good gas mileage to boot (18/29 for the manual and 19/30+ for the auto).  I read the article about a month ago, but I recall reading that the new V6 delivers numbers similar to previous V8s while the new V8 is a even better (but with much worse mileage, if that's important).

I don't know, but there's another color called "grabber orange." Maybe they're named such because their color is so gross that they grab everyone's attention.

Maybe the colors were originally used on the Maverick "Grabber" model?

The Grabber colors were Shelby only until 1970. I'm working on scanning a picture of my wifes 1970 Mustang in. The color may be a little off. The picture was taken in 1972. Grabber Yellow was still a special color in 1970. =D

Got it to scan.

Yes, but it has been a while.

If the heads, intake, carb and hood wouldn't have been sold off of it it would be pretty easy. :'(

Yikes.

This is my favorite blue I've seen on a Mustang: http://www.motorcityauto.com/details.cfm?vid=BY91300A

Right click the main image and select "view image" or the equivalent to zoom in a bit.

Get a new hood, paint the car, and push it while your wife steers. It'll be fun. ;)
