Help, Rabbi! Help!
« on: February 28, 2007, 05:51:14 PM »
Rabbi,

You've been telling me how I don't understand the Hebrew scriptures and such like.  I'm on my second trip through the Pentateuch, and my eyes are really glazing over.  Could you suggest any English-language commentaries or other resources that might help me understand things better?  I would appreciate it.

Artscroll's Stone Chumash.  Digests many of the rabbinic commentaries.

Thanks a lot.  I'll look out for it.  Is that the whole Tanakh, or just the Pentateuch?

The Chumash is just the Pentateuch (chamish=5=penta).  There is a whole tanach version but I dont think it has as extensive a commentary.  These are both 1 volume works btw.

Thanks again.  I hope it's not really made of stone, cause that would be some expensive shipping charges.  shocked

That was just the first edition Smiley

Actually Stone was the name of the man who sponsored production.  You can get it on Amazon or go to Artscroll's website.  This has become the standard Chumash used in Orthodox synagogues over the last 7 years or so.
