"This just in from — where else? — the New Orleans bureau. ‘Tis a tribute to the healing powers of spirits. Hey, it’s the weekend before Carnival. Anything might happen."

[Yes, yes, let us include the usual ritual of disclaimers.  Nonetheless, still funny.]

I wonder which spirit she was praying to?
If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

My wife often says to me, "You are evil and must be destroyed." She may be right.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.

Not everyone who uses a wheelchair is a parapalegic.  Some have mobility and neurological issues, as well as other problems.  Some can stand for a few moments.
It's easy to make fun of the picture.  But there is no report in the story about why she was using the wheelchair.

Well, it's entirely possible that she can stand for short times but not walk very far or very steadily.

I did mention the usual disclaimers, but some folks' senses of humor seem to need more than reasonable accommodation.  ;)

Would have been funnier if it was a pic of me in the ATV power chair.

Even funnier is how most crips/gimps take no offense at a picture & caption/comment like that, but the PC Police  :police:  get all holier than thou over it.

stay safe.
If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.

I wonder which spirit she was praying to?

Not sure, but it looks like she is partial to calling on Saint Captain Morgan for intercession.

As an aside, I've also met several elderly folk who where given a wheelchair by medical proffessionals, and told to keep their butts in it.
These particular elderly folk did not take kindly to such orders, said "bah" and used their wheelchairs like some mad glorified walker with a big basket.
The thing I always question is why the medical proffesionals involved didn't take into account the stubbornness of some people and figure that sometimes descretion is the better part of valor. If these folks are going to refuse to use it as a wheelchair, then maybe give them a walker instead, because surely that would be safer.

Gimpy Bauers (RIP, Bill) would have found that funny.

And then he would have told a few dirty jokes.

And then he would have found a waitress to embarrass, making suggestive remarks.

All while sitting in a chair to which he had been confined for twenty years.

We lost Bill a year or so ago.  A few days before he boarded his flight for Valhalla, he called my wife and told her a couple of dirty jokes.  He wasn't worried about himself -- he'd reconciled that years ago -- he hated leaving his friends.

He absolutely detested political correctness.  He loved not having to apologize for anything offensive he might say, wherever he might be.

Hey, who's gonna rag on a quad SEAL stuck in a motor chair over some bit of colorful language?

Crap.  Now my eyes are all wet.  Dammit.

I drive the local senior bus part time, one old grouchy Veteran who died this past summer would insist on walking everywhere - ---except the V.A .
He loved making them wheel him around.

Arf,
I recall you posting about your magnificent friend when he passed.  The really good ones only come around once in awhile.

They do. Then they have to keep in mind that some of these same  stubborn folks won't hesitate to call a lawyer should something go wrong.
