Sorry, Fistful: another great letter to the editor
« on: August 19, 2011, 11:43:31 PM »
This guy really hits a liberal home run with this one: a) redistribution of wealth; b) stigmatizing profits; c) "climate change"; d) new taxes on business (and therefore on the middle and upper income brackets); d) alternative energy; e) a veiled swipe at Walmart (his China reference); and the "alternative energy economy" (would someone please wake me when that economy gets going)?

Quote
CLIMATE CHANGE

Worthy proposal

As one who is concerned about the threat posed by climate change, I was encouraged by Sue Loomans' article in Sunday's Crossroads section proposing a "carbon fee and dividend" approach to combat global warming. As Loomans points out, such an approach would curb CO2 emissions by sending price signals to the market that would discourage the use of CO2-emitting energy sources in favor of utilizing alternative energy and realizing greater efficiency through conservation.

To soften the economic impact of the carbon fee's effect on energy prices, all revenue generated through the carbon fee would be divvied equally to every household. As an added bonus, the current flow of money out of America to oil-exporting countries (many of which don't always have our best interests in mind) would stay in America and create jobs in the alternative energy economy. But most important, we'd be taking meaningful steps to preserve a habitable climate for future generations.

In the end, true wealth isn't a quarterly earnings statement or the ability to purchase cheap items from China (made available only through massive fossil fuel inputs). True wealth is having a planet that can support life - human and otherwise - over the long haul.

Someone should tell Alex that we're in a new decade now.

The local fishwrap has a nutjob that writes a LTTE to editor every week espousing one or more libtard/socialist unworkable fantasy's.

And each week there are three or more responses published to Walt's through-the-looking-glass letter.

I may start putting them here, just to watch Fistful's head asplode, as the reason I think they publish Walt's letters in the first place is to generate more LTTE's as that's probably the only part of this birdcage liner that people read.

Here's his latest missive:

Glen Ellyn, IL —

Death of Uncle Sam caused
by elder abuse and neglect

The body of a 235-year-old, affectionately known as Uncle Sam, was found on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., today. Crime scene investigators placed police tape around the body believing foul play was involved.

Given his age, Uncle Sam showed signs of extreme elder abuse. Most of his assets had been siphoned off to engorge the money belts of the very rich and fund criminal wars that have killed hundreds of thousands and sent millions more fleeing the carnage his minions unleashed against them.

His eyes had been taped shut to prevent him from seeing the damage being done, and his ears were plugged to ward off cries of the unemployed and the untreated sick and the poor. His jaw was wired shut to prevent his cries for help.

His arteries, the highways and bridges that carried the commerce so vital to his economic well-being, were clogged and crumbling, not from old age but from senseless neglect. His cholesterol level had reached 14 trillion.

The paid public servants responsible for his well-being were seen imbibing a strange brew of tea and sophistry that drove them into a frenzy of unprecedented meanness toward their benevolent uncle. As they danced around the corpse, they were heard chanting, “Government is not the solution; government is the problem.”

Police broke up the mob but made no arrests.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

Uncle Sam should have carried a gun, to defend himself. He should have been self-reliant, instead of relying on "paid public servants responsible for his well-being," etc.
