Is there an easy rule of thumb that would help me remember the proper usage of "to" and "too"?
I often sit here looking at my posts as I am ready to send them out wondering if I am using the right one.

Just think of the extra 'o' in "too" as a reminder of excess.

Two is a number.
Too can be used as Warbow mentioned. It can also be used as a synonym for also. e.g "This, too, shall pass."
To is a preposition. "I am going to the store."

Thanks, the "reminder of excess" will do the trick.

LoL, I know, just put that in there because it's a two too! Not to be confused with a TuTu.
It's funny how you can have mental blocks about such simple things.

Splitting infinitives isn't the sin that some would have us believe.
Neither is the double negative.

Not a sin, no, but definitely a sign of second-best writing.

I heard of an instance of someone saying "I don't see no reason why it shouldn't not work", a quadruple negative.

You should be able to replace 'too' with 'also'. If it doesn't make sense, it should the 'to'
