Except for the wood-working part. IIRC, Offerman and his brothers have a wood-working shop. That part of the Swanson character came from Offerman.

He's definitely a lefty. Outside of his role as Ron Swanson, he seems like a pretty good person when in his workshop. He has another channel called My Tales of Whisky Official. One of the videos, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQD0__vE7rU is of him trying to open up his own distillery. I wonder if playing his character has started to rub off on him.

Maybe human motivations aren't a binary yes/no, right/left, us/them thing and folks can have a range of opinions about many varied subjects, so that you might disagree with someone on a couple issues, while finding you have common interests and agreement on others.  You might even find that you share interests and agree with a "leftist" on non political things and could enjoy their products and/or company. (gasp!)

Haven't seen the video, but I'll buy that.

I have made the general observation that it seems like even the most committed Socialists become temporary Libertarians when THEY have to pull a permit or pay a fee for something they want.  It's the other stuff that needs to be regulated for the greater good.

Major disappoint for me. I have always tried to interact with people in the way Dogmush alluded to a couple of posts up. Heck, it was about required to ignore politics and find common ground if I even wanted to just talk to anyone at all where I used to live.

In the present climate though, all I see is people that want to take everything away from because I'm not against Trump in all ways.  I mean, we see that in restaurants that don't even want me to eat in peace if I have a different political viewpoint from them, or even just one of their snowflake busboys.

As I've said before, I have always pretty much ignored the politics of actors and separated that to watch shows I enjoy, like Parks and Rec. Lately it has become extremely difficult for me to do that because all these actors are so in my face about it. I have actually lately avoided shows because the actors are major jackasses in real life in the era of Trump. I never used to do that.

I’ve pretty much abandoned all modern media. When I subject myself to it I find it impossible to suspend disbelief for even a moment. The characters, the stories, everything gets parsed down to what narrative are they imposing on the viewers?

Rarely is it a narrative I support.

I also have cut way back on my media consumption*. Partially it is being sick of having someone else's narrative pushed at me, and partially it is just that it seems movies and TV's aren't that entertaining anymore.

The list of shows I watch is under 5, and honestly I'm behind on those because I haven't had the gumption to go get the episodes I need to watch.  I putz in the garage or man cave, or watch YouTube to learn about whatever I'm putzing around doing.  (see modeling thread)

Interestingly enough about the only media that still entertains me for any length of time is Video Games.  I'm really looking forward to the new Tomb Raider, and have like 200hrs sunk into Skyrim over two years or so.  Video games seem to be one of the last bastions in media to tell SJW's off, and have managed to stay interesting and fun.  Go figure...

One of the best sitcoms I've ever seen. Chris Pratt (who is about as far right as you get in Hollywood) is remarkably funny. Aziz Ansari (SJW-ness notwithstanding) is just as good. I also like Amy Poehler, but I guess I'm an outlier in that.

There is some lefty messaging, which only gets annoying in later seasons. The last season was rather flat, since they insisted on giving every character a happy, sappy ending. On the other hand, they did predict the Cubs World Series win (the whole last season was set in the future).

Yeah, I though the next to last season was particularly bad in that regard with the lib politician cameos, Leslie running as the progressive candidate, etc. Her lefty-ism was much more fun to watch when she was just a local gov worker.

Yeah, I'm glad it was mostly limited to very short clips of her meeting politicians. I guess they knew that those parts wouldn't be that funny. They should have stuck to just Leslie talking about how hunky Joe Biden is. 'Cuz that never stops being funny.

Remember that the Ron Swanson was supposed to be clownish.  A libertarian working for the .gov.  We were supposed to laugh at him.  However, most people, especially here in "flyover country" connected with him.  Which truly surprised the producers and writers.  But since money talks and BS walks, they kept him around.   I recall reading something that he was supposed to have some kind of breakdown and leave the series early on.
