So, how could this have happened with this tank?
« on: February 12, 2009, 11:15:57 AM »
I see no berm in the picture. Could there be one out of view, or is this sort of thing possible on flat ground with sand that's too soft? Just curious.

There must be something just out of view that it flipped over.  It is also possible something flipped it, such as Godzilla or Mothra...

In the 90's for some reason the Army thought it would be a good idea to see how easy it would be for a bulldozer driven by a combat engineer to flip a tank out at NTC.  Unlikely, but it is possible this is the aftermath clean up.  Stupid idea anyway..  what are the chances of an unarmored bulldozer getting close enough to a tank without being shot to do something like this?

I was leaning towards Incredible Hulk, myself.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

I guess it's a good thing we no longer have a young El Tejon. :D

considering the stories of some of the army guys i know. yep.

jo had a doozy about getting humvees stuck on top of sand dunes.
it involved four young guys, plenty of testosterone and a vehical.

i have a feeling this has the same ingrediants.

The other "woops!" photos I've seen from there are more easily explained. Mud has been thwarting military vehicles since Ramses' chariots got stuck. It was just the "how did they...?" of that upside down one that makes me wonder.

Possibly fell off a flatbed/tank transporter.
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

That's got to be an old (GWI-1991) picture.  Not sure if there are even any M60's left in the inventory even in Reserve and Guard units.

I've been in a flying deuce-and-a-half......been in an upside humvee....and used a humvee + 100' of chain to get a Deuce-and-a-half out of a sand trap at Laguna AAF.

Could have been an engineer unit, M728 CEV.  Those were in inventory until the late 90's at least.  All we see is the back.

Edit:  I'm probably wrong though since as I think about it the boom on the back of the turret would be visible.

MRE heater-bomb under one of the tracks, obviously.

Either that, or someone actually ate the MRE, and was sitting on that side about an hour later...  =D

Seems most likely to me.
