Happiness is apparently a U-shaped curve, and the bottom of the curve is at 47.2.

Sounds about right for me... but for other reasons...

Turned 47 in November. Have been fighting a very contentious and very expensive custody battle with my ex for the last 8 months or so- been in court 1/2 dozen times in that span of time. If I lose, I'll probably be losing my home because of child support, if I win, my years of savings will be depleted and going to pay for lawyers.
Worst year of my entire adult life.

Sounds about right for me, too.  It was a divorcey time.  Recounting details would not be a good idea.  I'd rather face the rest of this sunny pretty day smiling.

I wonder how closely that 47.2 relates to divorcey things, though.

Mmmmm.   Right now (64) isn't so great.  Partly because the more I see of how the world works, the less I like living in it.

I agree with the age 47 average.  I'm 50 now and just starting to come out of my funk.  And I have a good life, good wife (no divorce), good kids, and a good job.  Really nothing to complain about yet I was still miserable for the last few years.  I didn't read the article, but I'm guessing peak unhappiness coincides with slowing down, ageing issues, lack of testosterone, lack of drive, etc.

I guess you could say that it's actually a sine wave.

Sounds like it's approximately a tangent function, not a sine function.

Funny, but 47 kind of matches my experience, divorcie divorcy divorce time and all.  I'm 63 now, and things look pretty decent.
If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

My wife often says to me, "You are evil and must be destroyed." She may be right.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.

57 is the new 47?
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

At 47, everyone was still alive, and everything still mostly worked.  At 64, not so much.

62 ain't great either. Today I pulled a 14" stent out of my right kidney by the string it was tied to that was left hanging out... of my pee pee.
I might not last very long or be very effective but I'll be a real pain in the ass for a minute!

My unhappiness was off the freaking charts yesterday...

Stomach bug, mild food poisoning, I don't know, but it was not pleasant. Still not great this morning.
