How close do you live to a nuclear weapon?

The '18 miles from Seattle' site refers to the Trident submarine missile facility on the Kitsap Peninsula, less than 20 air miles from Seattle.

While I suppose it is possible there have been some drastic changes since I got out of the Navy in '92, but my money is that the map is not particularly accurate.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

It's not proximity to outgoing that is as big a deal. Incoming on the other hand.

It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

Doesn't one potentially lead to the other?
For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

In terms of the incoming, I live near three probable military targets: The Naval base at Everett, the Naval air station on Whidbey Island and the Jim Creek Naval Radio Station in Arlington.  The radio station is about six miles away as the crow flies and would be the major concern in terms of blast radius and fallout, especially if an incoming MIRV is off a bit.  Since the radio station is the West Coast ELF communication station for submerged submarines, I would assume it would be a very high priority on the target list, to knock out communications with the boomer and fast attack fleet.

Don't matter much anyhow.  'Cause we'll all go together when we go.  What a comforting thought that is to know.  Yes, we'll all go simultaneous, when the air becomes uranious, and we'll all go together when we go.

Well, 3/8 cm is still 0.1476" no matter what you do, so what's the big deal?

Lets see, Barksdale Air Force Base, Home of the B-52H Stratofortress Nuke bombers is just down the road and across the river from me I'd say I'm fairly close. Google maps says 5.3 miles from my front door by car.
I might not last very long or be very effective but I'll be a real pain in the ass for a minute!

Best quote/line of the whole article.  That could have actually been me saying that.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

I've always wanted a nuke small enough to put under my glass topped coffee table.  Thought it would make a great conversation piece.

The ones I've been around really weren't that big, it's the delivery system that had all the bulk.

Two years ago, my wife and I went to Vegas for Christmas.  We went to the Atomic Museum, and we were impressed with how the staff decorated the nuclear weapons with tinsel garlands and Santa hats.

Just make sure the shielding is intact.  Do they make glass that block radioactivity?

Perxactly.  We already nuked the hell out of it in 50's, 60's, and into the 70's and 80's...

I slept within 500' of 8 nuclear reactors when I was stationed on the USS Enterprise.

I don't need to use a night light in my bedroom.

The world's nuclear powers have built a long history of NOT accidentally setting off strategic weapons. I worry more about traffic on the freeway.
