Title: Gardening - Grow bags?
Post by: Ben on March 08, 2017, 11:47:50 AM
I have a bunch of interspersed free space around the yard where I'd like to put taters and maybe termaters in grow bags. From the Amazon description, most of the grow bags just seem to be Tyvek, but they're asking like five ducats a pop for them. I know Tyvek is cheaper than that.

Also, before somebody tells me to just make raised beds with scrap lumber, I have plenty of those. I want something temporary and moveable because I might need to follow (or avoid) the sun in a few spots.

Do any of you use grow bags and do you have a cheap source? Seems like they shouldn't cost more than $1-$2 per.

Make your own, costs a little more but would be more durable.

Try to look for stuff marketed toward nursery use instead of home gardening.  I know some commercial nurseries ship in those containers because they can be gotten right for around what cheap plastic pots can be had for. Like 10 cents for a 1 gallon, probably under a buck for a 5 gallon... but that's wholesale and I don't know where to source that.

I'd poke around this site:  https://247garden.com/247p-fp-5gtp.html ... that's a 5 gallon pot with a velcro flap for $1.65.  They have cheaper stuff in that size.  Right around what you were thinking.  No idea if it's any good, never used them.
