Window of time I was given to kick off users and migrate the files:  5:00pm to 7:00pm.

Time I hit enter on the "clear station all" command: 5:01pm.

Time I received the "Migration completed" message: 6:59pm.

I don't like cutting it quite so close, but still, kind of cool.   (insofar as a file system migration can ever be considered "cool")

The "client" is my employer.  And since I ended up being 1.5 hours late this morning due to personal stuff I can't even get OT for it.  So yeah, I charged them: I get paid again next week. And that's a good thing.

Damifino.  I was sitting at home in my bedroom, remoted in.  I was told it was mine from 5 to 7.

I started a migration one Monday morning at 07:30. The vendor assured me that "most conversions are done within 90 minutes."

Fifteen hours later, the process was finished! For an entire day, the accounting, manufacturing and shipping departments were off-line. I was *not* a popular guy that day...

Our product has frequent database SQL code enhancements.

Now and then, they'll do a big format change to a column... some of our customers, these columns for serial numbers or part numbers could be hundreds of thousands of rows long.

And our developers usually don't bother to make a temporary index for these changes.

12-48 hours isn't unheard of.
