and even then he keeps his salary and benefits up until he moment he is convicted.

Ummm, isn't that the way it is supposed to be. You know, the whole innocent until proven guilty thing. Not until accused -- until proven.

Is this the sequel to the same story, or totally unrelated?

That's the sequel. The kid is now apparently being harassed by the local fuzz.

Some .gov jobs as well as licenses and such go away the moment you are arrested. Even if the charges are dropped shortly afterwards you are still screwed. I don't necessarily agree with it, but that is the way it is.

Personally I don't think it should take a conviction to fire someone depending on the circumstances. In this case they know for a fact that he did several things wrong. Plus the standards for being fired should be a bit lower than being guilty of a felony.

Kind of.  The cop was definitely a bad apple.  Glad he was fired.  But the kid strikes me as another mouthy brat spoiling for a little attention.

Can anyone find a link to the Billy Dell[sp?] story from UC? My ggogle-foo fails me, and it seems an appropriate thing to interject.

Kind of.  The cop was definitely a bad apple.  Glad he was fired.  But the kid strikes me as another mouthy brat spoiling for a little attention.

I read the transcripts.  He sounded a bit whiney at times, but he didn't appear (to me) as significantly mouthing off.  'Mouthy' brats are a bit annoying, but it is not illegal nor a threat to the general public.

An officer who knowingly said on video that he has no problem fabricating charges...  Uh.  Illegal and definitely a threat to the public.  Not to meantion, his career was dead even if he wasn't fired.  Any time he filled paperwork on any perp, any defense attorney that was at least half sober could get the charges tossed.  Rightfully so.  Integrity, my friends, integrity.

Well, duh.  I wasn't defending the cop.  Again, duh.  Kid just rubs me the wrong way is all.  Lighten up, folks.

I wonder if he's gonna "make something up" on his latest job application?

Most likely, the only thing he'll be "making up" will probably come with fries.   grin

As much as I get the feeling the kids personality and intents are less than savory, I don't believe he's technically done anything wrong.
He doesn't deserve this.

The thin blue line of harassment began in earnest, I see.  I wonder if the visibility in Blogdom will have any effect on mitigating that?

As I said before, the kid had better make himself small - or get ready to move to a different town under a new identity.   sad

Let me clarify that I don't think this guy, or anyone else, deserves illegal harassment.  Although I can see why it looked like I did.   smiley

It looked like you did because you are a jerkface, but we forgive you because you're a hilarious jerkface.
So don't worry about it. Wink
