My dream retirement...seriously. One of Grandad's friends had one very similar, a couple slips over from Grandad's boat.

I'd live on it in S. Fla., the Carribean, or the Gulf of Mexico and charter it out.

I've got enough wheel time to qualify for a six pack license, but I can't prove it/may be outdated. I haven't looked into commercial charter licensing in a long time.

Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen's private yacht. One of these?

The stern hangar holds a smaller yacht and a submarine. It's over 400 feet long.

Octopus cost Allen over US$200 million and has permanent crew of 60, including several former Navy Seals. It has two helicopters, seven boats, a 10 man submarine and a remote controlled vehicle for crawling on the Ocean floor. The submarine has the capacity to sleep eight for up to two weeks underwater.

I'd take a 20-24 ft pontoon over a yacht most any day.

Dang! Now that SCREAMS class!

You could hire your APS friends to row you up and down the Chesapeake, Jamis!

And when you die, who needs a funeral plot, you have your long boat for a viking cremation!

I'm in, as long as we get to raid poorly-defended French coastal towns.

Well, we don't have any French coastal towns, so we'll have to substitute Maryland coastal towns.

I'm in. Though it should be possible to sail it over the Atlantic ocean. We can't let the french get away can we?
And I've decided that I'm going to build myself a longboat, and having it as my funeral pyre. Stocked with weapons and food of course. And my still living enemies, chained down, to serve me as slaves in the next world grin cheesy.

I can't take that much time off of work.

Can I just fly into London and you guys come up the Thames and pick me up at Heathrow or Gatwick?

New Orleans has a French Quarter and convenient access by (and for) water.  Wouldn't that count?  grin

Seek out wisdom in books, rare manuscripts, and cryptic poems if you will, but seek it also in simple stones and fragile herbs and in the cries of wild birds. Listen to the song of the wind and the roar of water if you would discover magic, for it is here that the old secrets are still preserved.

It seems like I don't have any friends here who are interested in celebrating the old ways of pillaging, looting and sacrificing 9 horses, dogs, humans etc. every ninth year. Though there is a replica longboat not very far from here. Its totally capable of sailing too. Can't be too hard to get it to the british shores grin cheesy

Yeah, that will work, I guess...

How many boxes of plastic beads can we fit into a long boat?

I don't think a common pontoon boat would fare too well on the Chesapeake Bay. However, in MN, I would take one of those over most boats. Just make sure it can handle a REALLY BIG engine!!!
