South Carolina Snow
« on: January 28, 2014, 08:33:41 AM »
The weather gods have frowned upon us today and deemed that we should receive snow. Usually this snow lands above 85 and all is well. Today it seems it is going to fall below 85, all the way down the 95 corridor where there are expecting up to three inches of winter stuff.

Everyone is freaking out. In addition to the usual bread and milk panic, i have been told people are selling their daughters for beer and frozen pizza as well.

Pictures of snow and probably senseless grocery store violence to follow.

45? And I thought So Cal people were wimps!  :P  =D

It's 47 here now and I'm about to go out in a short sleeve polo. If I put a jacket on, I'd be burning up. That's like a perfect temperature. But then my dad tells me there's something wrong with me, and that I should move to Alaska.

It was pretty much 50 here yesterday. High of 23 today. 52 for the high on Friday.

On your situation, Jocassee, I have 5 pizzas you can borrow. (They were on sale this week!) You're on your own for the beer, though.

Yep.

Got my vacation day in early. It so much as threatens to snow and people start calling out left and right. For awhile I came in anyway....after that last time I've said screw it and go with the herd on this matter.

Crap.  And here we are in the upper left corner of the country with an unseasonably dry and warm winter.  It has been a lousy ski/snowshoeing season, and there will be heck to pay in the summer with the water supply from the low snowpack.

Weatherman said it was -29 degrees F when I rolled out this morning at 0545 here in the middle of Ohio.  About a foot of snow fell over the weekend.  Weather.com has it at -3 now.

I'm making plans for summer so i feel warmer on the inside.

Interesting!

Dreary Seattle... in a drought?

We are something like 16-17 inches of rain less than typically received in a Seattle winter.  The big irrigation projects in eastern Washington are already bracing for a bad year, between the low snowpack and low water flows on the Columbia.

I forget how much rain we had this year but I think it was almost 60 inches. 22 of that in July. You guys are pikers  >:D

LOL. They predicted minor flurries today for us.

The ground is already covered.

I guess this balances out with the significant snow we were predicted last time that turned out to be... minor flurries.

It was quite nice around the pool this morning.  Paddled around in the pool for awhile.  The sun feels good.  Think I'll pour myself another rumNcoke.

Despite our reputation, the typical annual rainfall for the Seattle area is only around 36 inches a year.  It ranks something like 44th on the list of US cities ranked by rainfall.  Where Seattle is different in that our rain does not usually come in major storms that drop two inches at a time, but rather a fairly constant drizzle from about early October to early May.  So it is the several months of unremitting gloom and drizzle that give Seattle a bad rap.

There's about 12-14 inches of Schnee here on the ground already.  Robert has made a decent amount of coin clearing driveways.

High here was 3 whole degrees F.   Low was -18F.  Second day in a row that school has been cancelled due to the extreme cold.

Supposed to get up to 19F tomorrow and 28 Thursday.  Warm enough for them to go to school

16 here in NJ, it has not been above freezing in 2 weeks I think.
I took the dogs for a run around the back 40 Sunday and the snow we had last Tuesday is still light and fluffy.

Canceled a Dr.'s appointment yesterday.  Asked them if they were going to charge the $25 fee for cancelling without 24hr. notice.

"Not in stuff like this," the kind receptionist said.

I used to figuratively enjoy "baring my chest" to the elements in the days of my youth.

But as I get older, my temperature tolerances have converged from both directions to 76°F +/- 2°F.

IT HAS BEGUN.

If it keeps up like this, I guesstimate at least a couple inches. No asphalt accumulation yet, which is good.
