Some people assume that the IRS will add the amount to your income, generating a bigger tax bill, or reduce your future tax refund when you file your tax return next year. Neither is the case, but this bears some explaining.

This last go round is ridiculous. I'm normally against the gov handouts, but since gov locked things down with bias (actors can work, restaurant servers can't), I don't mind money going to help individuals.
What I do mind is, what does this lousy $600 do now? A better use of all this money would have been $600/mo to everyone for the last six months, while they argue about which of their favorite entities/programs (both left and right) get the other billions of dollars.
Trump said months ago that he would immediately sign $1200 per person as a stand alone. That would have helped individuals at a more appropriate time, but of course he was kiboshed. The $600 might have helped people in June. At this point, most people are where they are, good or bad. $600 isn't much more helpful at this point than back when W Bush gave everybody a one time payment of a hundred bucks.

If you got an interest refund due to IRS slow processing you return it is taxable if over $10.00. I think we got a check for $11.30.

SWMBO and I are in an odd place. I make under the limit for max stimulation, SWMBO makes over the limit for any stimulation. Jointly we were mid-stimulation with my cals showing each of us getting something like $800. Only it didn't happen that way. I got a full check and she got nothing. I guess only being married for a couple months of 2019 means the IRS considers us as individuals when it comes to being stimulated. Weird.

It's the same qualifications as last time, right? We got the last one, so I assume we'll get this one. (Tax Free Deployment pay FTW).

Assuming the income thresholds from last time remains we should get $3600 if I’m reading it right as we have 4 kids.
However, I don’t need it, and would just as soon not get it. Since I know I’ll be paying for it with interest the rest of my life.

I think she's being genuine, and I have to grudgingly respect that. There should be a "Pelosi rule" that results in politicians getting shot if they utter the phrase, "We have to pass it to see what's in it."
That goes for both sides of the aisle.

If you filed as married joint it should be based on your combined income. Limit is $150k for married-joint filing people. At least it was last time.

Given the broad bipartisan support for this boondoggle, Congress would probably override. The Senate vote was 92-6 and the House voted 359-53 to pass.

There are zero leaders in the House or Senate who are able to slow this stuff down.
The problem, as always, is holding Republicans accountable would end up with Democrats having complete control over both houses. The results of that probably wouldn't be that dramatically different.
The public has been trained to accept this, to vote for it and to ignore the waste. Everyone on the right expects the Republicans to vote like Democrats once they get in office.
We aren't voting ourselves out of this mess.
There will be slow decline and dissolution/collapse or civil war long before voting fixes anything.

McConnell has blocked any vote on stimulizing Americans with $2000 for the time being. He says he needs to bring the Senate into focus on that and two other important issues. Given that there are only a couple of days left in the session, I doubt anything he wants to "bring into focus" will actually get done.

Uncle Sugar just sent me $600. I didn't think I'd be getting anything due to my wife's immigration status, but it seems that this bill changed some of the requirements. It is a welcome surprise; said wife just had to have her appendix removed last week and this will help with whatever medical expenses stem from that.

Kids got it today. We were exempt. Even when we got it last go around ( just under the max earnings since they used our 2018 return AGI) we put it aside in case the kids struggled during the lockdowns. They didn’t so it’s held in reserve until things get back to normal, whatever that is anyway.

I see. My impression was that the vandals in both cases likely came from the same side of the political spectrum so it didn’t strike me bipartisan from that perspective, but from the perspective of the hard left’s “liberals get the bullet too” I guess so.
