Title: Anchorage, Alaska earthquake
Post by: Fly320s on November 30, 2018, 08:10:28 PM
7.0 magnitude centered 5 miles north of Anchorage.  No deaths, but lots of damage.  The Anchorage airport was close for a bit to check for damage but is open now.

DAMN YOU NRA/Trump/Global Warming!!!

Wasn't there a particularly damaging quake around Anchorage in the late '50s-early '60s?

Yup.

I was looking at some of the pictures of the damage. It's amazing no one died. Cars right in the middle of the damaged roads.  :O

I'm betting there are a lot of people who needed a change of underpants and thanking their lucky stars that that's all they needed.

I talked to my parents who about 10 miles NNE of the epicenter.  They said there's some impressive road and building damage, and lots of folks without power but other than that not to bad.  Dad works at the airport and it's back up and running already, there were some leaks.

They said the big worry is going to be frozen pipes and people if the power doesn't come back on and folks don't have alternative heat.  Schools are closed mon-teus of next week.

I remember when schools would be used as emergency shelters for this kind of thing, once they were verified structurally sound.

Yeah... you joke, but I saw amongst the people gleeful that Sarah Palin's house was destroyed some leftist moron saying:

"NOW will you believe in Climate Change!?!?"

Yeah, these are the people who LOVE science. Maybe worship is a better term.
