Indeed.  Not a big drinker.  I read 1-2 glasses of red wine /evening is supposed to be good for your heart.

Remember an AA advisor in Korea telling a fellow Soldier that someone that has even one drink a year at Thanksgiving is an alcoholic.  The Soldier asked him what he thought of someone that drank a 6 pack a night and the advisor said that he had a problem.

Buddy got up and walked out and didn't go back.

???
Could he have been saying that it was a problem for an alcoholic to drink even one drink a year?  Otherwise it doesn't make much sense.

These lips have never been touched by alcohol - since I got that funnel.

In a condensed version, leaving a lot out, alcoholism is not about drinking or how much one drinks so much as it is about stopping drinking.  Hell, even Bill W. knew that.

(Interresting trivia - early AA meetings were behind locked doors and you had to give the password to get in.  "I'm a friend of Bill" or "Bill sent me".  From the stigma of an alcoholic to darned near everybody claiming to have some sort of compulsive disease.

stay safe.
If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.

Hey you kids!! Get off my lawn!!!

They keep making this eternal vigilance thing harder and harder.  Protecting the 2nd amendment is like playing PACMAN - there's no pause button so you can go to the bathroom.

Said that they were considered "Planned Alcoholics" because the "had" to have that glass of wine with dinner every year.

I've always considered an alcoholic to be the person who can no longer function without alcohol.

In other words, the guy who has to have a drink of vodka upon waking every morning, and usually spills half the first drink because the shakes are so bad.
Dad was lucky to make it out of that alive.

One drink is not enough.

Two  drinks is too many.

Three drinks is not enough.
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

If it interferes with the rest of your life, or you plan your days around drinking, then there's a problem.

So Mr. AA is just saying that if you plan your year around drinking, then there's a problem.

It's early and my brain is still in 1st gear.

When I was drinking, I would run any errands needed for the day before 5pm, as I started drinking at 5 pm sharp. I didn't want to drink and drive. If I went to visit family, I did so early afternoon, so I could be home by 5.

I always had beer in the fridge. If I was below 12-14 cans, I would have a case in the trunk of my car. I always checked the beer inventory right away in the morning to make sure there was enough for the night. (I also checked to find out how much I'd drank the night before).

A drunk I know (and current AA counselor) had bottles of vodka hidden in a city park near his house. At home, he drained bottle of mens cologne and aftershave and filed them with vodka.

That's what I mean when I talk about planning.
