Which caliber for HD AR pistol?

Saying all that about AR's, if cost is an issue, there are plenty of really inexpensive pump action shotguns out there that would be decent for home defense.  A lot of them are available around $200.  These are usually foreign made copies.  Mossberg makes a Maverick 88.  There is a Stevens 320 model in various configurations. 

My mom has a Maverick 88 in defense configuration. Holds 7 shells in the magazine, I think at the time she got it it was like $180.

I have an old beater Maverick 88 I need to cut the field 28” barrel down to 20” for a truck gun. I have a very nice Win 1300 with A 28” barrel if I ever need it.

Mrgunsngear did a review on the Stevens 320 which is a copy of a Winchester model.  They are Chinese, but work well.  The one I got had front and rear sights and it was cheap.  Turned out to be a pretty solid shot gun for the 30 or 40 rounds I have shot through it.  I haven't tried to accessorize it.

Back on AR's, I picked up a few more boxes of this ammo last weekend at a gun show(about the same price).  It has opened up nicely shooting water jugs. 

I guess you can start with M193 or some soft point hunting ammo, but all you really need is a couple boxes.  A few rounds to verify zero then fill up a ready magazine.
