'Taken' movie
« on: February 14, 2009, 11:26:57 PM »
I saw 'Taken' this evening.

Without going into detail, I really liked it.  The fight scenes were violent and quick and the logic and intelligence gathering was believable.

Who else has seen it?  What were your impressions?

The fight scenes were violent and quick...

I like 'em that way, too.  I hate those long, drawn-out fights between two arch-enemies.  They spend half the movie showing us what expert fighters they are, but at show-time, it takes 'em all day just to finish the job.  Stupid.

Just watched it today.

I particularly enjoyed the conversation about him wanting to protect his daughter from the real world: the real world that his ex-wife wouldn't acknowledge in her sheltered life.
Oh yeah, and the violence was good too...  :O

The gunfight/chase @ construction site a "bit overdone." Still, good movie, better than most.

Yeah, it was worth a watch.  Obviously quite a bit over the top, but hey, it's a movie.

The only thing I didn't like was the fact that they had a 25 year old playing a 17 year old that acted like a 12 year old.  Other than that, I thought it was pretty good.

I liked it.  It's rare you get to see the Hero be that ruthless.

Also, it seems like most 17 year olds that I know (albiet, a small sample) do act like 12 year olds, so that migh just have been good acting.

I liked it a lot.

Basically, think of it as if the daughter of Sam Fisher (from the Splintercell games) was kidnapped.

I especially liked the scene where the main character talks about the Paris electricity, if you know what I mean.

I'll bump this old thread since I just watched Taken last week.

WOW.

I like a little realism in my movies: i.e. Just because you grew up in a bubble doesn't mean you are safe everywhere you go.

Also, was it bad that I was laughing through at many points in the movie? Not because I thought it was funny, but because seeing people die who deserve death is a very cathartic experience.

I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

The only thing I didn't like about that move was the one shot stops from a handgun.  But other than that, sweet movie.

Those were more realistic than the construction scene.  That was the most over the top part.

That and in the end -

Yeah, agreed.  The construction scene was typical action movie.  My favorite part was how he dealt with the sheik.

"We can negotiate!"

I did too. It would have been rather anti-climactic, though.

Also, the only thing missing from that scene was: "Anyone else wanna negotiate?!"

Korben Dallas: We need to find the leader, Mangalores won't fight without the leader.
Aknot: One more shot, and we start killing hostages!
Korben Dallas: That's the leader.
Aknot: Send someone to negotiate.
Fog: [as Dallas looks at him] Uh, I-I've never negotiated before.
Korben Dallas: Do you mind if I try?
Fog: No, sure, sure, sure.
[shouts]
Fog: We're sending somebody in to negotiate!
[Corben walks into the room and shoots Aknot between the eyes. As he falls, the other Mangalores drop their weapons and bow over him, keening]
Korben Dallas: Anybody else want to negotiate?
Fog: Wh-where did he learn to n-negotiate like that?
President Lindberg: [looking at General Munro] I wonder.

Edit: My previous post was making light of most action movies with their quips and one-liners which were refreshingly absent in this movie.

My comment was not a disagreement. I love it too. I love a lot of terrible movies. (Army of Darkness, UHF, Hot Shots...)

Taken was great.

I like that he was an honest-to-God sheepdog, not the "Bourne" portrayal of CIA types as thieving thugs serving the military-industrial conspiracy.

I want 2 more hours of him going back to mop up the bad guys he passed over in his pursuit.

*Spoiler Caution*

I'm not the most tactical guy in the world, but in my mind he had sorta set a tripwire in his mind when he was "negotiating" with the sheik.  It was like he had decided that as soon as the sheik spoke, he was going to shoot.  Anyone else see it that way?

Just saw this last night. Great movie. In response to the previous poster, what I saw was total concentration, waiting for the shiek to shift focus off the knife. As soon as he spoke, that was it. Curtains for the sheik. Lacey, gently wafting curtains...
