Trip to Alaska
« on: November 23, 2005, 02:37:13 PM »
My wife and the MIL want to see Alaska.
Any ideas on what to see and where to go. They are going to do the cruiseship thing.
Is there a "best time"to do this. As we are in FLA what's the weather like in late May early June?

Jump over to TFL or THR and PM Wildalaska.  He'll get you on the right track.

Or join AAA in Florida.  They have beaucoup info on Alaska, especially cruises.

May is going to be rainy, cool and windy in SE. The coastal areas kinda suck weatherwise. Most of the snow there will just be melting off. June would be a better month to come up here to avoid shocking your FL system.
I would suggest taking the cruise to get up here then head to Fairbanks and the Interior.

There was a post a couple of days ago from Wild Alaska. He was about to leave on an extended hunting trip so he may have PM turned off. As Erik noted spiffie should have more details.

They are going to book a cruise in the 1st or 2nd week of June. I don't know the whole plan as yet, but MIL is 75 so nothing too hard is in their plans.

As a crew dawg, I used to spend 30, 60, 90 days at a time in Fairbanks, courtesy of Eielson's runway.

There's a buffet-style restaurant in downtown Fairbanks, within staggering distance from the Captain Bartlett Inn.  The stuffed trout and caribou stew are first-rate!

I wonder why Wild and Spiffy don't post here anymore.  This place is fun and uninhibited.  With Wild being a cross dresser and all, I'm a little surprised he's not around.

They'll be sailing the "inner passage" with some stops along the way when they go. An overnighter in Denalie (sp?) Park, Anchorage, Seaward, and one other I can't remember now. Thanks for the info. That's why they went for June and not May.

I'd forgotten about the Capt. Bartlett.  Did your room come with the complimentary science experiment in the shower?
