A fondly remembered film from my days as a ute, couple days ago I ran across it in the used Blu-Ray bin. Surprising how well it's aged. Aside from the obviously dated SFx, it's still a fun flick. It even stands the upgrade to high def amazingly well, and the sound mix fares far better than many films from the time. Theres a nice retrospective and behind-the-scenes as part of the bonus materials.

As a bonus to sharp-eyed Trekkies, watch carefully and you may spot Marc Alaimo and Wil Wheaton among the cast.

Me too.
Feeding quarters into video games was a daily pastime for me then.The thought that the machine I played might lead to adventure was pretty kool.

The graphics might be outdated, but due to the nature of them I'd imagine it'd be something that could be redone relatively easily compared to Star Wars, for example.

Still a movie I like to pull out and re-watch on occasion.

I remember seeing a review of the Blu-Ray release saying that the conversion was unusually well done. Always loved that movie, I was THE target audience. I'll have to see about getting it again.

Visited Dad at the fire station one day many, MANY years ago, and was putting a quarter in the game machine - Galaga, I think it was - and he said something to the effect of "Be careful you don't get a visit from an alien looking to come take you out into space to fly a fighter, like in that movie."

Looks like someone is working on a sequel. Since it involves the original creator, maybe it won't suck. I am suspicious of anything Hollywood does these days.

Alex's daughter is the stunning and brave heroine of this episode, with no flaws or faults to her character. Alex left Maggie and the kids on Rylos, because #mensuckandwedontneedthemanyways. He's living in a hermit cave with Grig.

The Star League are the real villains all along, and the Kodan are just misunderstood and have been used. Alex's role in this mess is to come to terms with his daughter's relationship with a transexual Zan-do-Zan.

I had the book in the early to mid 80's. Whenever it came out. In all the moves since then it has be lost.

I was fortunate enough to see the last of the Starfighters in service at Luke AFB when I lived in Phoenix in the 1980s. They were being used to train the Luftwaffe, the last air force to actually fly the F-104 in active service.
Later on, I was unfortunate enough to see the last of those Starfighters broken up and laying in heap of scrap alongside some hangers when I attended an airshow at Luke. The German air force had taken theirs out of service and the USAF was no longer training their pilots in the aircraft.

Love this movie. I always thought this would be a easy cash grab for the studio to update the CGI and re-release.

Maybe that will be part of the sequel release.
