Walking dead season 2 premiers tonight at 9pm est.
I'm currently watching reruns form last year.
Here is an observation from the current episode.
They are on this mystical journey to get a bag of guns. Ok so there are 350 million known guns in the US, there are 307 million people. If most are now zombies (zombies don't use guns) there would be a *expletive deleted*it load of guns lying around. No need to go looking for the bag they had. Plus they are in Georgia, were 40 percent of all people have at least one. So in theory there are more guns lying around than dead people. There are 15 major military bases in Georgia, I thing the pickings would be better there.
-
I'm guessing you'd find tons of guns laying around, but a severe shortage of ammo.
-
=D My DVD recorder is programmed, primed and ready! ! ! ! ! ! [popcorn] [popcorn]

I would take a run to fort benning. Connect me if I'm wrong (doesn't happen much ;/) that is the major training for the army. There most likely would be lots of ammo there. Considering the sheer quantities of it they use for training. Plus mostly small caliber. A dump truck load of 155 ap won't do you any good when the Abrams burns more fuel than you could supply.

Have to find the keys to the bunkers and all also.
-
I almost forgot. Glad I spotted the rerun marathon and checked here.
Re: weapon availability. We here know the reality, but a) it's a drama, and the dearth of firepower helps heighten the suspense, and b) much of the audience is likely clueless, so it's a non-issue for the writers.

With plenty of time and no guards, one can break into ANY bunker . . .
-
Oh, yeah, the DVR is ready!
-
With plenty of time and no guards, one can break into ANY bunker . . .
All you have to do is find the right zombie guard that still has his keys. =D Of course that is if the base is still unoccupied and not overrun with zombies.

I doubt there are just guns neatly piled just waiting for a survivor to come along. You want them to go searching through every single house? Might not be a bad idea to do a hit and run on houses at random, could find all sorts of goodies. Also there actually were guns lying around due to the dead soldiers, not to mention their gear! Of course no one ever thinks to go back and get them,
-
Re-watching the Season One marathon.
Do tanks have keys?
Doesn't the main gun have an override physical trigger?
If I can't start it by gumption I WILL be trying to fire a 105mm round. If only for the lulz.

All the military vehicle i've i seen have had chains and padlocks around the steering wheel or padlocks on the doors.
So all you need is good set of bolt-cutters !

I meant the one he crawled into in Atlanta, presumably operating until the crew died.

it was awesome!! I have been watching last season every once in a while because its still in the DVR, sure they make mistakes that we zombie killin pro's wouldn't but the writers don't hunt/fish/shoot for fun or hang out on forums where right wing extremist talk about the joys of a new trigger on their 1911

Noticed that the two cops took charge and decided nobody but THEY ought to have guns, lest someone pop off a shot and draw a herd of zombies . . . and the rest went along with them.
-
I will claim some ignorance here, what network? With the past couple of years preparing for and being on a deployment haven't had much time to keep up with my regular shows much less "new" ones I hadn't heard of. Sounds like I need to find season one and watch it.
-

That part made me sad, but if you notice later, the cop did it to back up the old guy, who put forth the idea in order to keep the blonde girl from offing herself. Just after that scene, the cop asked the old guy what was up.
I'm not entirely sure if the cop was taking advantage of an opportunity or trying to put a "logical" spin behind the old man's concerns in order to keep people from flipping out.
To be honest, a crossbow bolt to the head seems to work about as well as a gunshot and is much quieter. That might be a better choice for many situations. Save the firearms for extreme CQB and extreme long shots, use crossbows for the midrange stuff.

Same here. They started him out as a bad guy, but he's turning out to be about the only person with any sense and a lack of ulterior motives.

Face it, Chris.
You're pulling for the hillbilly because, well, if the world goes to *expletive deleted*it, you will be the hillbilly with archery equipment.

You have a problem with that? It wasn't done for political gun control reasons, it was done to insure everyone's survival. Someone with no firearms experience popping off wild, uncontrolled shots at zombies could be a seriously bad thing in their situation. They would only attract more zombies, plus endanger everyone else nearby with their lack of control of the firearm.
If you recall, the deputy mentioned getting the rest of the group properly trained so they could all carry.
Plus, Dale had valid concerns about the blonde. She is seriously wacked from the loss of her sister, already having tried suicide at the CDC. The deputy picked up on that, and I suspect it was the driving factor in his decision.
-
Face it, Chris.

I don't currently own any archery equipment. :P

If it's not a blast door, and just a steel security door with a shrouded lock (like many I've seen for small-arms rooms) then just ratclaw it. Oh yeah, and screw the Abrahms, I'll take the Stryker, or up-armored 5-ton/HEMTT. Less fuel and much easier to change a tire than a track. :P
I meant the one he crawled into in Atlanta, presumably operating until the crew died.
Moot point, as I understand it the driver's compartment is isolated from the rest of the tank. You have to crawl in a small hatch in front of the turret. Hell, the driver was probably still locked in there.

They knew where that bag o'guns was, and that they were all functional and safe to use, being sheriff's-dept.-issue. Might make up for a lot, as opposed to having to crawl through many houses (with potential for exposure to hidden walkers in each and every one) to try to acquire a rag-bag collection of dissimilar weapons.
Took 'em *WAY* too long to acquire quiet hand weapons, though. One thought I had, and continue to have, was that they needed to hit up a sporting-goods store for crossbows and arrows, maybe aluminum bats, find a bunch of crowbars, things like that. Make boar spears, too, even. Firearms would be useful and at least occasionally necessary for survival, post-apocalypse - but they're *LOUD*. We've already seen that it can be REALLY handy to not make enough noise to draw every walker within 10 miles to your location.
The behind-the-scenes stuff on the Season 1 disc was cool, if you haven't seen it - they even teach you how to do zombie makeup with commonly-available supplies.

Its on AMC & is based on a graphic novel-yes do find season one, being up to date on Zombie issues is critical.

Besides the bag of guns, there was a radio in the bag and deputy good guy had promised to use it to contact the man & his son in the first episode.

You'll probably be able to find some after the zombies come. Of course, a hilljack like you should have a crossbow already.... :-*
I keep thinking...

Hell, even unsuppressed, a 10/22 is a crap load quieter than almost any centerfire pistol/shotgun/rifle. Guess I'd better stock up on mags and ammo!
-
Just watched it, and ho-hum sums the episode up.
-
Forget guns and armored vehicles. These aren't fast or smart zombies.
For this type of zombie, give me a snow blower...
http://youtu.be/-4d31XgzGYk
At worst, you might need to weld on some glass protection armor/covering.
-
Hey, that "snowblower" worked against vampires with a guy riding shotgun. Shuffle zombies should be cake.

Wow good mines think alike. I say if your going to be driving around might as well be thinning the herd.
Those big blowers have serious HP and prob burn a lot of fuel.
Maybe an older tractor w/ a combine. Easier to repair and keep running.
-
Last night's Season 2 premiere episode of AMC's The Walking Dead delivered more adults in the 18-49 demo (and 25-54) than any other basic cable drama in TV history.
With 7.3 total million viewers (11 million total for the night), the episode "What Lies Ahead" drew in about 36-38% more than the Season 1 average.

Yeah, it was a bit of Bear Grylls pissy gear-a-thon.

If you're thinking of what I'm thinking, they weren't vampires, they were vulkodlak. ;)
A suppressed .22, a good perch, plenty of ammo, and a target-rich environment . . . zombie hunter nirvana.
(Hmmm . . . shouldn't there have been more of a zombie crowd by the church with the bells on the PA system?)

I want to know why no one has tried molotov firebombs against groups of zombies...

Fuel is more useful in vehicles and you don't want a bunch of walking torches around.
Chris
-
I wonder if it makes any sense to deliberately hunt zombies by use of traps?
Consider:
Zombies can't climb trees.
Put a guy in a tree stand with a Mosin rifle and a few cases of ammo. He can shoot the nearest zombie.
Sound of shot attracts more zombies. Shoot them all (by their hundreds) like targets at a range until you run out of ammo or get tired or whatnot. Then have a compatriot lure the zombies elsewhere and evacuate.
Do this in an organized fashion and you can dezombify entire areas and then loot them for goods.
-
i have plans for a zombie trap with the trash shredder from "30 days of Nights" at the end of the labyrinth
you could also "live trap" 'em in dumpsters and burn them for fuel
-

There's more than one suitable zombie cooking fuel that's not useful for fueling a truck.
-

Depends on the vehicle. My truck has a multi-fuel engine and can burn anything from straight motor oil to gasoline. I suppose that E-85 and other crap lighter/dryer than gasoline would be fair game for zombie disposal though.

This is why the shuffle zombie is soo boring.
A bunch of idiots with bats and shotguns seem to survive. But an armored division operating in open fields can't seem to hold them off. Really?
In the 1968 Night of the Living Dead, the unorganized militia and police had the shuffle zombies under control by morning.
If you're thinking of what I'm thinking, they weren't vampires, they were vulkodlak. ;)
This is what made me think of the snow blower too. My favorite book in the series so far.

With much wailing and gnashing of teeth when there is no longer a next one and you've got to wait! But that does of course follow the fist pumping from the endings and impatience is known to vary.

T- 48 minutes till episode 2.
This has been a public service announcement, nothing to see move along.

When oh when will they develop nail on end of stick technology?

That one was pretty sucky.

Looks like next week will be quite good.

I think the whole point of this episode was a build up. Tension over the children, sick guy, missing guy surrounded by zombie hoarde.

Somebody needed to slap the mother for doctor shopping during a zombie apocalypse.
The son is not too popular on the IMDB message boards. There's several "hope he dies" threads. One of the funnier comments was something like, " I hope if he gets better that he walks in front of another deer, or maybe a gorilla".
The farm was a cool setup. The house didn't look very secure, but with a secure house, that's the kind of place I'd look to lay low during the ZA.

zombies stay where they have a target stimulus
who is living in the school and how pissed are they about the new portal?

When I watched this show and was discussing it with 2swap, it went about like this:
me: "If we are ever in the midst of a zombie apocalypse and the team leader tells me to disarm myself..."
2swap: "You shoot him and say the zombies got him?"
me: "Exactly."
-

I'm still trying to figure out why they didn't draw the zombies a little further from the trailer. A small bon fire with some noise in it a hundred yards away, anyone? Blow up a car? Something!
-
"When oh when will they develop nail on end of stick technology?"
Probably a long time after they figure out that a .22 rifle tends to be a LOT quieter than a shotgun or a high powered rifle...
And with a tiny bit of modification, very, very quiet.
And I want to know why the hell they still haven't figured out how to cleanse the zombie hoards with fire.
-
My first thought on seeing the flares arcing in the air was: "OK, how will they get out?"
-
And I want to know why the hell they still haven't figured out how to cleanse the zombie hoards with fire.
Oooh, you are right. Don't even bother with the nail, just light the end of the stick on fire! Will probably be a lot easier as the mostly dried out zombies will become torches, lighting the other zombies on fire as you scamper off to get marshmellows. Parking lot seems a safe place for a zombie fire to me.

Douse ground with some kind of fuel. Attract zombies. Ignite. Profit????

Bruce Campbell needs a cameo
Bruce knows deadites

The show is a bit too straight, but that could be neat.
-
The farm house appeared to have no fortification. There were zombies walking around very close.
I will say the house seemed to have a good vantage point for seeing whats going on.... But They can see you and they don't glow in the dark (do they) you could have them right next to you in the dark.
When he was opening the car door at the medical center I thought he was either going to drive the car a draw them away, mow them down, or turn on the siren. Not what I expected.
Any police here? Don't you usually carry 30-45 min flares? Not the 5 minute ones used in the show.

The ones they used a few weeks ago at my crash scene were about 30 minute jobs. But yeah, they seriously needed a FAR better diversion than that - how did they EVER think that was going to be enough to get them in and out safely?

Found some info on TWD:
http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/kschlichter/2011/10/19/is-the-walking-dead-terminal-yes-because-its-stupid/
Lots of good quotes can be snipped from the above link - here's a sample:
. . . the characters act like such utter idiots that it actually suspends the suspension of disbelief
Do they take light, four-wheel drive vehicles of the type that are all over the place in Georgia? No – instead of taking vehicles with mobility and fuel economy, they take a Winnebago with a track record of breaking down. Why? Who knows.
Also found another website that mentioned that the network cut the budget, ("Ratings don't matter"), ordered more episodes on the reduced budget, fired the original writer, and wanted 50% of the scenes shot indoors because it was cheaper. Network suit also indicated it would be OK (and cheaper) if they could only hear the zombies, not see them, in some scenes.

I really liked deputy bad guy shooting Otis in the knee, the whole my poor baby thing with the kid that got shot was getting boring.
I think he decided he could get to look like a hero by bringing the supplies back and get back in the good graces of Mrs deputy good guy.
Plus-he will get to shoot deputy good guy & keep the Mrs as the prize.

-
The zeds were herded in the CDC / school for some reason.
The need for drama in a TV show is what draws them to the very places the characters need to go. Farmhouses with Vets acting as Doctors are spared so the story can focus on the child. What? You didn't know that about zombies?
Chris
-
I was sure the asian kid was gonna be pushed into the hayloft floor with the walkers-darn!
Excellent death penalty for post apocalyptic zombie world
-
Well, the reason there was a barn full of walkers in the first place is the farm seems to be run by pacifists who cannot even bring themselves to 'kill' zombies.
I suspected death by misadventure might be in the works, but as it left, I think worked up zombies are going to bust out of that old rotting barn.

That was my first thought as well. The good doctor could bring himself to put down the family members who were infected.
Zombie baby? How would that happen?
I'm not sure of the timeline, but isn't there a good chance that the baby is Deputy Psycho's?

I think that's basically implied. If it was Rick's baby why wouldn't she just tell him?

we have not been told how the virus started, totally plausible baby will be a zombie.
& why not? dead people are up and walking around, what else could happen?

Wouldn't a zombie baby simply eat its way out of the womb?
A whole new type of Caesarian sec..... >:D

I don't see how keeping this a secret benefits anyone. Especially as those two men aren't that different looking. Now, if a half Asian baby were born, then things would be interesting.

I just caught the latest episode. Lack of interpersonal skills and information sharing had me shouting at the tv. So nothing new :P
You know what may be more effective than ranting about how bad things are and how it changes folks... talk about your time at the CDC that granted you direct knowledge about the nature of the walkers and how any hopes for a cure are absurd.

Almost any "horror" movie would be especially short if any of the characters weren't spectacularly dumb. Obviously, the applies especially to a "horror" television series.
(I'm guessing it's because the writers are lazy.)

Hollywood must be envisioned, in my opinion as that beast favored by film-makers, the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
The Tyrannosaurus Rex was, we are told, huge, equipped with amazing muscles and reflexes, sharp teeth and claws, and a pea-sized brain.
Hollywood is huge, equipped with high-quality special effects crews, advisors of every kind, make-up artists and inventory specialists, decent actors and a logistics system that would put some militaries to shame - controlled by writers and directors with pea-sized brains.
-
controlled by writers and directors with pea-sized brains.
If you have ever listened to Adam Carrola's podcast, he echos exactly the same sentiment.

I think she's as smart as anyone else on the show.
(That's not exactly a compliment, if you catch my meaning.)

Please, I can come up with 15 hooks for horror films that are do not depend on the protagonists being morons.
Of course that's because I'm smarter than the average Hollywood writer.
Then again so is a doorknob.

The "Sniper" episode of Castle was pretty hard to watch in that respect.

I just stayed up all night catching up on Walking Dead instead of my sleep. My suspension of disbelief is still intact and I enjoyed it immensely, although I wish Rick's wife would stop being SO DAMN STUPID.
Darryl is still my favorite character.

Anyone else thought it poor play when directly asked if the group had any medicines his stash [earlier used to save the black guy] went pointedly unmentioned?
I mean, they were raiding a pharmacy, had a doc [of a sorts] doing surgery and other care for them, it just seemed needlessly anti-social. Hoarding isn't the proper choice when at a safe house that is giving you care. And the whole no guns things... and them being ok with it. Zombies! But then again, seeing the group... I'm frankly not sure how much I'd trust them with a pointy stick either.
-
Aside from the "disarmament clause" one thing that has really made this show for me is the gun handling and training being shown.
-
If you read the comic books, it comes out that biting apparently isn't the only form of transmission.
I think that could shake things up soon
I have not read the comix yet, but in 28 days later a guy gets infected by a drop of infected blood in his eye

series finale was pretty good, not quite what I expected

series finale was pretty good, not quite what I expected
Yeah. I did NOT see that coming at all! Glad to see Rick stepping up to take care of business as everyone else cowered, including Deputy Psycho who was just saying Rick isn't fit for this world.
Damn fine mid-season finale. I can't wait for the fallout from that when everyone realizes that Hershel knew the whole time.
-
I'm certain the group will be leaving the farm at this point. Shane wants to take the place over, which in real life would be prudent. But the story can't stagnate, so they will load up and move on. I predict that Maggie will leave with them.

Spoiler alert, darn it!
Probably correct on these.
The other question is who fathered the baby??
I wonder if they will have to lave the farm now, though, as the barn walkers have been dispatched.
-
I watched the mid-finale last night.
Darryl is growing a soul. Shane is losing his (if he ever had one). Rick seems to have his feet back under him after Carl's accident.
Dale is always thinking two steps ahead, but lacks the forceful personality necessary to guide the group and seems to be firmly placed in the caring advisor role. Perhaps he alone sees the division shaping up between morality/idealism (Rick) and ruthless utilitarianism (Shane).

It doesn't look like it, watching the previews from next season.
It's gonna be a long 3 months!

Forget guns and armored vehicles. These aren't fast or smart zombies.
For this type of zombie, give me a snow blower...
http://youtu.be/-4d31XgzGYk
At worst, you might need to weld on some glass protection armor/covering.
I remember getting excited during that one scene in the department store when a zombie was using a rock to bash in a window.
The writers seem to have forgotten about it.

About the alternative methods of virus transmission: I cringed every time someone "passionately" bashes a zombie's face in, with blood flying everywhere.

So, anybody think they're finally done with all the secrets that were about to drive everyone to mass slaughter and/or fracture the little group? Glenn even commented on how stupid all the secrets were. Shane and Rick both know about Lori's pregnancy. All opinions are out in the open.
I think the next episode will end up with hundreds of walkers descending on the farm due to the noise of all the gunfire from killing the dozen or so in the barn.
I was amazed with the poor marksmanship and the fact that it took multiple shots to put down many of the walkers, even though Shane demonstrated in an apoplectic fit that they don't react to torso shots at all, prior to busting down the barn door. If they face several hundred walkers at once, they can't be that careless with ammo. Their little "cleansing" must have cost them over 100 rounds of ammo, just for a dozen walkers. They have to do better. These were slow walkers, not "rage" zombies or smart ones. It would have been very easy to 1-shot each of them. Or kill them some quieter way.
-
Even after Shane's demo on the captured walker - which showed that ONLY headshots work - I couldn't figure out why they were blazing away at these (conveniently slow) walkers with torso shots. ???
Dale needs to have a little "attitude adjustment" with his hoplophobia - I mean, taking the guns out to the swamp and hiding them? (Shane was much nicer to him than I would have been.)
SPOILER: I figured Sophia was going to end up as a walker and the group would meet up with her again, I just didn't expect her to be in the barn.
-
heck, a cattle chute and some sledging platforms could of saved all that ammo

But that wouldn't have been nearly as dramatic.

ya know, a barn full of zeds would be a valuable resource to exploit.
We know head shooting them works, do they keep snapping after decapitation?
What does a lobotomy do? Can they drown? Do they poop?
Fire distracts them. is it the heat or the visuals?
Can you dazzle a zombie's vision with intense light?
Masking human smells would be a good project.
Do they hear or do they sense vibration?
Lets find out what stimulates them and what doesn't.
You might find that covering your head with a patchouli scented towel is the perfect Zed camouflage

They already tested the smell thing back in S1 - Rick and Glenn covered themselves in zombie blood and guts to walk the streets of Atlanta to recover the step-van and get Andrea and the rest of the group back to camp. The zombies were basically oblivious to them, as long as they didn't talk.
Until it (naturally) started raining and washed away their camoflauge. Then they ran. Some of the zombies ran after them, and even climbed the chain link fence to continue pursuit. The rest of them just piled onto the fence to bring it down.
I thought I remembered they also showed a decapitated zombie retaining head functions until the brain actually took a shot - in the camp outside ATL, wasn't it?
-
see, plenty of useful things to test with a barnful of zeds
do they like LudwigVan or the Macrerana?
whats a better masking agent, offal or skunk?
can they be influenced to target dummies?
will they vote? will they float? chase a goat?
-

Damn fine mid-season finale. I can't wait for the fallout from that when everyone realizes that Hershel knew the whole time.
On the "Talking Dead" show, the creator of comic/series stated that Herschel didn't know because it was Otis who was in charge of wrangling Walkers, and Otis died before being told about the missing Sophia.

In the comic book one character not seen in the show had 2 tame zombies. If I remember correctly they were missing their lower jaws and had their arms cut off at the shoulder (maybe missing their eyes and teeth too). She kept them on a short leash and because of their proximity to her other zombies ignored her.

Reviving thread. New episodes have returned. Last night's was not too bad, other than Rick's wife once again proved she's the dullest knife in the drawer.
-
Rick's wife, what in hades was she thinking? Oh, wait...
My wife heard me yelling at the stupidity in the other room. Otherwise yes, it was a pretty decent episode.
-
Philly boy's friends will snatch Lori
-
Ben, with all due respect, that's an insult to knives. She's like the rusty vegetable peeler you keep as a backup in case your OXO breaks. Harold's snatch theory or not, we can look forward to soapish drama over the health of the baby.
-
Rick's wife . . .
(spoilers ahead)
She's upset because her kid said he would have killed Walker Sophia. (Well, what would she have him do? Give Walker Sophia a hug?)
Rick & the oriental guy - forgot his name - go to retrieve the veterinarian . . . but they're not going fast enough, so Rick's wife goes off by herself to find them and hurry them up. (Gee, what could go wrong?) But she doesn't know the way, so she's reading a map while driving . . . (Gee, maybe she needs to keep her eyes on the road?) . . . with entirely predictable results.
Anyone who didn't see the crash coming as soon as she started reading the map while driving must have been asleep.
Parts of this episode show promise - Rick woke up and can do fast draw - and the veterinarian seems to be coming to his senses about the walkers, but the oriental guy isn't very dependable any more (strange for a guy who was surviving in a city full of walkers) and we still have stupid people continuing to do stupid things . . . e.g., Rick's wife.
Let's see what kind of trouble Dale cooks up in future episodes (he's an idiot, but he knows Shane isn't exactly a hero) and whether or not Shane goes completely off the rails.
-
Well, now that the spoilers are out...
I really liked the introduction of the Philly crew. Introducing live, bad humans may copy other works in the genre, but it also adds a bit of excitement beyond shooting shambling dead people in the head. Good on Rick for using his cop skilz and knowing Philly boy #1 was up to something behind the bar, but oriental guy should have had the shotgun aimed in the general direction of fat boy.
One of the best parts of the episode for me was Daryl's "Olive Oyle" comment. =D
I also agree with Harold that Rick's wife and Philly crew will get to know each other better.

Glenn has figured out how not to be zombie food, but he's not the quickest when it comes to human-human interactions. He was furthest behind the power curve in that room. Rick knew the score pretty quickly, then Hershel.
No scenes from the next episode? Gonna check the intertubz and see if they're online.

Thanks for the link to the preview . . .

Yea, I'm there with the Asian guy - what a wallflower.
Nice of him to stand there in the bar, looking clueless.
Was that a walker that Rick's wife hit?
It kind of looked like the skinny attitude problem guy.
-
Regarding Rick's Wife, never have I ever wished so badly for a story character to become a brain-biscuit. You know, I'm all for trying to expand the gene pool that suddenly became a jacuzzi, but in this case a little chlorine is needed.
-
and she didn't have the gun holstered and on her person, you know the walker she hit will be crawling back to munch, nickle bet she's injured, cant move and the gun is inches out of reach as a walker tries to get in the car.

Ack! No kidding - it was like her character was from a different series...
The female DA, as I recall was very cool, though.
-
Rick shouldn't be leaving her alone anyway, you know as soon as he's around the corner guys will be lining up saying "you know, your husbands dead right?" ... a very romantic line, I'm not so sure it works very well if you're not in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. ...
-
I want to predict that the girl who is "in shock" turns out to be infected, especially after her zombie mother attacked her, even though there was no biting.
However, since every single person on the show has witnessed someone turning, it would be extremely stupid of everyone to not see that coming.

I agree, the farm probably goes to heck as the girl turns and the hero's are in town wasting lead and time.
... but how does the girl get the infection? you see them smearing smelly zombie blood on each other season one plus the girl didn't seem to be bitten or scratched.

I thought he knew.

I thought he knew.
Don't think so.
Also, Andrew Lincoln was on Letterman last night.
He is a Brit, his real last name is Clutterbuck, and he has quite the British accent.
His FIL is Ian Anderson, the flute-playing leader of Jethro Tull!

Nope, Rick knows, at the end of season two "Secrets" episode the wife confesses and Rick said he knew, I don't think Shane knows that Rick knows. Shane apparently believes the kid is his, She believes the kid is Ricks. Probably little chance of DNA verification.

They might have not shown her getting bit.
You'd think when someone has those symptoms, the first thing you do is rip off their clothes and inspect them for damage, then tie them down jic.

Yep.
Back to the new episode, I was thourghouly impressed with Rick sacking up and being billy bad ass. He didn't try and talk his way out of it. He knew the score. He knew that the two guys were bullies and saw him as the threat, and would use one of the other two to lead them back to the farm. There is a zombie apocolypse gang leader in there, somewhere.

Agreed on Rick. This episode recaptured some of the edginess and tension of the pilot, with the plot uncertainties and additional atmospheric music.

They covered that in the ending of last season

Decided to start new thread instead of adding to misleading "season 2" thread.
Shane used the same knife that he used to stab a walker in the head to slice his hand to smear the bus door to distract the walkers!
That was brought up during Talking Dead. ... either the writers goofed or they're gonna have to explain why Shane doesn't turn by next episode.
Lori continues to be quite dumb, but the hot sharpshooter gal gets in her two cents-I laughed out loud.
Pretty decent episode, except that its kind of unbelievable the injured kid hadn't spoke up before about going to school with Meg-if he did why didn't he bug out to the farm in the first place or try talking to Herschel while he was mending?

Technically this IS still Season 2. Just the back half.
For Season 3 (16 episodes!), the Governor will rear his head up - and he's been cast already. David Morrissey, a British actor, will play the part.
-
How long does zombie blood stay effective? Maybe Shane washed his knife before he used it on his hand.
-
Maybe Shane turns and becomes the first of a breed of super zombies..... [popcorn]
Rick is becoming the hard nosed leader with a concious he needs to be finally. Of course, I'm certain his wife will continue to be a dipshit.
-
I've tried watching that show. It's really sort of boring and stupid. All the characters do is whine and argue and once in awhile a rotting corpse staggers by. [popcorn]
Just sayin'
-
"the Governor will rear his head up..."
What, Smith & Wesson is placing product in TV shows now?
I'm not sure why everyone gives Lori such a hard time. I think Andrea is a far bigger drag on the plot.
Interesting that last night's episode was quite cast limited.
No Herschel, no Glenn, no Daryl, no Dale, no Carol...
-
Speaking of the Governor, I shot one last Thursday during the S&W indoor IDPA match. That revolver is big! The trigger was pretty decent, but I only got to fire six rounds of .45acp through it.

I'll say the same thing about the Gubonador that I said about the Joodge, which is the same thing I said about the Thudd 5 when it came out back in the early 1990s....
What the flying three-fingered *expletive deleted*ck are these morons thinking?
Let's take a huge gun, make it SEVERELY under powered with some ammunition, barely able to hit a barn with a bull's ass with other kinds of ammunition, make it impossible to conceal, and adopt a breathless series of advertising scenarios designed to make this thing look like it's a solution to a problem, when in fact it's a question no one in their right minds ever would have asked in the first place.
But, you know, one of these idiotic "handshotrevolverpistolguns" (not sure which one to use, as none of them really apply) just MIGHT be enough to get Shane eaten, so I'm all for one being written into the script.
-
The Gov is not a gun, but a person. They've named an actor (can't recall his name, but he's a Brit).
Chris

Duh.
David Morrissey.
What the hell is up with all the Brits in the cast? This makes two, possibly three.
I don't recall any Americans in 28 Days Later.

Yea, that would be a plot saving move indeed.
I find it hard to buy the fact that Zombie scent becomes so much more acute (for blood).
Unless they are developing millions more scent receptors in their nose, it ain't happening.
Makes good TV, though.

If people would simply accept universal health care, we wouldn't have to worry about zombies with decaying teeth.

I find it hard to believe that, several months after "the event" that the zombies, with no functional circulatory or respiratory system, haven't rotted into puddles of goo.

Several months into the Zombie Apocalypse and this band of survivors is yet to rediscover pointy stick technology. Sure knifing them in the head saves ammo, but that gets your hand really close to the zombie mouth and the post stabby spray of surely infectious zombie blood. Pointy stick... And come on, arrows... They see Dale doing it... are they that dense? A much better option.
I also think there should be a general de-zombification effort. See a zombie, go stab it with the pointy stick. That is a zombie that won't be wandering into camp later. Less zombies, less zombie mobs, less zombie surprises.
And the whole cutting yourself to lay a spot of blood as zombie focus... Aside from the whole open cuts, zombie blood, infection problem... What about regular infections? I hope the scenes of them then putting on neosporin and band aids was just cut for time constraint reasons.
And anyone else think headphones at full blast is a bit cruel and torturery? And then despite the kid having his ears assaulted, for their Important Talk, they step out of the car and walk off a good distance. Drama rules in this zombie dystopia.
-
I've said other places that if I were in some sort of situation like this, my preferred close in weapon would be a Japanese Katana or Naginata. Relatively silent, effective, and an arms reach kind of weapon.
Firearm choice?
Easy. A .22. Something like a Ruger 10/22 with a bunch of high-cap magazines. Relatively quiet, which is a huge benefit, when the zombies are drawn by sound, not much kick so very fast recovery time, fairly easy to suppress by do it yourself means, and will do more than enough damage to the brain to stop a zombie.

The gun handling is a bit better then other shows that prominently feature guns, when shot on WD zombies and people simply fall down - not fly through the air, a particularly good example was shooting zombie Sophie.

"swords can get stuck in skulls"
I'll take my chances with a katana over what those ass clowns were using in last week's show.

Given how easily the knives were going through some of the thickest parts of the skull, I think the show should be renamed "The Walking Cantaloupes."
As for swords and skulls, The Bride showed us just how easily her katana would take the top off Oh Ren Ishi's skull, so I'm not worried in the least.

I almost reminded you that Kill Bill is fictional and you shouldn't take from a fictional scene potentially life-or-death information about the effectiveness of weaponry . . . and then I remembered that we are talking about killing zombies.
So yeah, go on with the katana, should work well.
-
Thrust to face via proper longsword. End of problem.
I think were I doing that I'd want a rapier and go for the eyes.
-
I think were I doing that I'd want a rapier and go for the eyes.
Readily achievable with longsword, in fact really my intended statement, with the added benefit of two cutting edges and better cutting power. That said, the rapier is a formidable weapon.
-
I'd be worried about the relative size of point/blade vs penetrating power of the long sword.
Something like a star point rapier is well known for being able to punch through fairly heavy bone like ribs and the sternum.

This.
Suppressed (or not) 22LR with a decent scope, plus as much ammo as you can carry.
Go to a reasonably tall structure (say 30-50ft)
Destroy the access to it (bring a rope)
Start shooting zombies.
Lets say you can carry 40 bricks of 22LR, and you average one to two shots per zombie,
And zombies can hear an unsuppressed 22 out to a mile or so.
That's 10,000-20,000 zombie kills, or fully depopulating an area with a population density of 6-12,000/sq mile...or a VERY dense city.
(note, assuming they on average get 50yds away, that's a pile of zombies 50yds in radius and only 1-2 zombies deep.
Pour some fuel oil on the zombie pile, light, and leave
Then, move to a new location and resupply.
That's 150lbs of ammo (and about $1000-1200 bucks)
In terms of rate, let's say zombies travel at a slow shamble (about 0.5-1 mile per hour), you will have to shoot quasi-rapid fire (a shot every 1-2 seconds) to prevent a zombie-pile from reaching your 30-50ft altitude.
But still, this shows that with careful planning, zombie depopulation even in dense cities is totally reasonable
-
The only problem with that would be what was shown in a previous episode... zombie herds. You'd constantly have to worry about the area being repopulated with zombies.
-
Technically this IS still Season 2. Just the back half.
For Season 3 (16 episodes!), the Governor will rear his head up - and he's been cast already. David Morrissey, a British actor, will play the part.
That part was made for Tom Savini.
-
The only problem with that would be what was shown in a previous episode... zombie herds. You'd constantly have to worry about the area being repopulated with zombies.
Then you simply repeat.
Since zombies can't shoot back, the optimum tactic is physical separation combined with shooting them. Since they can't climb a smooth wall, only pile against it, the best tactic is then to surround an area with a wall, and shoot them when they get close.
We saw in the mot reent episode, a chain-link fence will hold them (temporarily), so have multiple fences, and just walk up and shoot them in the head once the herd gets close.
-
Would nerve agents have any effect on zombies?
-
Someone hacked into my account. Yeah, that's what happened.
Wow, you and Anthony Weiner, eh?
Should we expect the requisite gray underwear shot upcoming? =D
-
Would nerve agents have any effect on zombies?
Probably...but they have bad effects on people as well, while a bullet is hopefully only dangerous to the one it's aimed at.

I thought last night episode was pretty awesome, with a cool set up for the season finale next week.
It was beginning to look like Shane was really getting tooo used to killing as a means of overcoming personal obstacles.
SPOILER ALERT
I'm guessing that Rick having to kill Shane will be a subject of contention, I also predict that everyone except Glen and The redneck bow/arrow guy whose name I can't remember will save everyone from the herd of walkers coming their way.
People are now turning as soon as they die, and last week or so they had the two security/cops who had turned without obvious signs of being bitten...does anyone remember people dieing without turning last season? It could be that it was always that way but they never noticed due to it was always ..... no wait...those guys in the bar, they got shot/ died without turning....did they receive head wounds?
Interesting
anyway, two thumbs up.
-
"no wait...those guys in the bar, they got shot/ died without turning....did they receive head wounds?"
Yes. Rick shot the guy behind the bar square in the forehead, then shot the fat guy in the chest. Then he finished him with a shot in the side of the head.
I've not seen yesterday's episode yet, but I'm not surprised that Rick killed Shane. That's been coming for some time, and it removes the primary bad guy to make way for the Governor.
The episode the week before this one, where Dale bought it?
I so wanted Carl to die... He's turning into a little shitbird.
-
SPOILER
The bite doesn't turn you, the bite just kills you.
You die without brain trauma, you turn.
it's in the comics.
Basically, everyone is infected.
-
Maybe that little tidbit is what Dr. Jenner whispered to Rick at the end of season 1 just before he blew himself to hell and back.
-
I so wanted Carl to die... He's turning into a little *expletive deleted*bird.
I so agree. On another forum, someone commented after he got shot that, " I hope if he gets better that he walks in front of another deer, or maybe a gorilla". I'd be good with that.
-
if rick knows that the un head shot reanimate, did Carl just wreck his planned opportunity to kill shane twice?
-
Maybe that little tidbit is what Dr. Jenner whispered to Rick at the end of season 1 just before he blew himself to hell and back.
That's my guess.
That episode (last night's, I mean) rocked.
-
I so wanted Carl to die... He's turning into a little *expletive deleted*bird.
I'm guessing that this is one area where the tv show and the comic will remain the same: Rick and Carl are the primary focus of the show. Nobody else is safe, but those two will make it no matter what.
-
At least Carl learned the lesson that actions have consequences. Dale was dead regardless. Wish his mother was as aware. I knew as soon as Rick started the road agent spin move that Shane was toast.
-

Lots of series - freaking near EVERYTHING ELSE ON TV - that are far more deserving of that fate.
-
Then why didn't Rick put a bullet through Shane's skull? Non sequitor.
I think he was about to...that's why he was watching so closely.
-
Watched it. Pretty good episode.
What I want to know, though, is if the kid's neck was broken, how the hell was he up and walking around?
As Jenner said, just the parts of the brain that get you up and moving come back, which infers that the motor neuron control function is still valid. With an interruption in the pathway between the functional part of the brain and the somatic motor neurons, how the hell was the kid fully mobile?
-
Zombie magic.
Chris
-
Of course. Silly me.
-
I still don't see why everyone is so down on Lori.
I think Andrea is a far bigger drag on both the group and the plot.
I think, though, that with her having semi-allied herself with Shane, her days are numbered.
I have a funny feeling she won't make it past next season.
-
In almost every crisis, Lori has a) stck her head in the sand, or b) acted foolishly to worsen the situation. Examples:
-When Carl wanted to learn to shoot, her response was "my poor baby's just been shot, I don't want him around evil GUNZ!!!" Even though he was shot in a hunting accident, which could easily have occurred before the zombie freaking apocalypse when their survival wasn't at stake.
-She runs off alone and completely unprepared to save her man in the bar in town, putting herself and others at risk for no particular reason other than her irrational compulsion to suddenly take part in action she's insulated herself from previously.
If I were a woman, I'd been insulted by the writers' treatment of her character. Andrea has issues, but hers are more understandable (losing her sister) and she's been more actively involved with decisionmaking, so I find her more consistent and credible.
-
Yup. Everyone seems ticked that everyone hasn't turned into warrior gods ready to smite anything in their way. They failed to realize that these are "normal people" and have different levels of aggression, ability, and skills. Lori is a mom and a suburban housewife, she's naturally not going to be Zena Warrior Princess from the outset.
Chris
-
And that's different from what every other character in the show has done/has not done has reacted/has not reacted.... how?
Seems to me that none of them are particularly well equipped to deal with a world full of zombies, or totally comprehend how their world has changed.
Where's the hate for Glen? He's not Turbo Asian Combat Dude, he just stood there with his shotgun and a blank expression on his face while Rick blew those two guys away...
Where's the hate for Herschell "They're going to find a cure for the sick people in my barn" Green?
The way I view it, Lori and Dale were the only ones who were trying to hold on to the last lingering shreds of normalacy and humanity.
Hell, even Dale wasn't catching any of the flack that Lori did, and he just got himself ripped to shreds.
-
Speaking of boobalicious warrior princesses, did you see that Lucy Lawless got herself arrested with some Greenpeace protestors in New Zealand.
There you go, the biggest reason for Lori not becoming Zena the Zombie Killing Warrior Princess... She doesn't have the boobs for it. ;/
-
I thought some folks bitched about Glen, Dale, and Herschell as well. It seems the only character that met approval was Shane and he's dead now.
Chris
-
"I thought some folks bitched about Glen, Dale, and Herschell as well."
Certainly not in this thread...
-
You're both overinflating/misinterpreting my argument. The character development and human reaction to inconceivable stressors is part of what I like about the show. The question is why people are hating on Lori in particular. I provided two examples which don't equate to Glen choking under pressure, Dale trying to preserve his humanity, Herschel being isolated and not understanding the scope of the situation, or my secret ninja or Xena fantasies.
-
Glen had been dealing with walkers in the city for a while when he met up with Rick. (Didn't he actually save Rick in Season 1?) It was out of character for him to just stand by with a vacant look on his face so Rick had to take out those two bad guys in the bar by himself.
"Disarmament" Dale sounded so reasonable, but his constant desire to disarm everyone else was wearing. (Notice he rarely put down his rifle . . . for all the good it did him in the end when he wandered off by himself in the dark.)
Herschell was deluded . . . but he finally wised up (thanks to Shane) and looks as if he may finally have his head screwed on right . . . unless the writers decide to have him crawl into the bottle.
Shane actually had some good points, but his personal issues involving Lori were blown up to the point where he became a caricature, murderous and unstable.
What's the real problem? Remember the old adage that "Too many cooks spoil the soup?" I think there are too many writers (or too many front office suits editing the writers) to maintain a good, consistent story line.
-
Yeah, actually they would equate to exactly all of that.
There are people claiming that Lori is sticking her head in the sand in not wanting her son to learn to use a gun.
What do you call Herschell refusing to admit that rotting people eating living people is anything other than sticking his head in the sand and refusing to address the reality of the situation? I personally call that burrowing into the sand up to your butt.
If anything, Lori had the better ultimate response to the situation. She listened to counter arguments, saw the logic, and acquiesced.
Herschell, on the other hand? OMG, I was wrong, these people WERE dead, not sick! I shall respond to this new realization by running away into what is possibly a zombie filled town to drink myself into oblivion.
Sigh.
Lori is also excoriated for her poor crisis performance. Ok, she gets worried, grabs a car, and drives to town. No, not bright. But, she took a gun with her, and after the accident she still managed to kill two of the walkers who were trying to eat her.
If Glenn freezing up in the middle of a shootout isn't poor crisis performance, then what is? And, he didn't just freeze up, he CONTINUED to freeze up -- in the bar, in the storage room, behind the dumpster. His underpants were probably so full of poo that they were unrecoverable.
Even Dale wasn't too damned bright. Knowing that the group was short on water, fuel, and just about everything else he was more than happy to pilot that gas-sucking RV through that traffic jam on the interstate without even considering that it would be a good idea to stop and scavenge....
Granted, all of this is a television show.
But, given the myriad, obvious, and glaring flaws that are written into each character, I still wonder why Lori is the lightning rod.
-
"It was out of character for him to just stand by with a vacant look on his face so Rick had to take out those two bad guys in the bar by himself."
Disagree.
Walkers are dead. Glenn shows an amazing difference in reaction when it comes to walkers vs humans.
Case in point, he and Maggie are in the drug store when a walker attacks her. He jumps to the rescue and kills the walker with a shelf, essentially his bare hands.
But in the bar, those two guys were alive.
I think that's the difference. Glenn's character has disassociated walkers from humanity, and thus all the barriers that prevent him from reacting are gone.
But put a human antagonist up against him? He's never going to be very effective. That's why I think his role in the Governor story line is going to be very.... interesting.
-

This analysis is spot-on. Remember, after they dropped him into the well to kill the walker, Glen told Maggie he felt it was a game and forgot about the reality of the situation.
Regarding Lori, you make good points. Bottom line, I don't know, the character/performance just particularly annoys me.
-
"Glen told Maggie he felt it was a game and forgot about the reality of the situation."
I'd forgotten about that. Yes. Game is a good word for it. Glenn is of the video game generation in which zombies feature prominently, and there have been true life cases of people acting out violently with the claim being that they lost the bubble between reality and video game fantasy. In that sense, Glenn has lost the bubble. When it comes to zombies, he's in a real-life video game.
Lord knows there are weeks when I don't feel quite right because there's not an XBox zombie game scheduled for release.
But I know I'll feel better the week after when TWO are scheduled for release. :D
Hum... Maybe Glenn would do better with human adversaries had he played a little more Call of Duty.
-
To expand on that, I recall when I used to play a lot of Quake (I and II) on my company LAN after hours, the drive home at night felt a but surreal, as if i were watching the road through a computer screen. There's something about intense 1st person gaming and your perception of reality shortly afterward.
Chris
-
I simply can't go to bed right after an intense gaming session.
If I lay down and try to go to sleep, I end up replaying the game even before I go to sleep.

I have a mount for my phone on my windshield and have recently discovered you can activate the camcorder while driving. Sooo Cool =D

Talking with a friend of mine about the Lori hating factor last night, and he said something that made me laugh my ass off...
"Lori? She's not Wesley Crusher, but she's close."
If any of you remember, when ST:TNG was on, there were whole anti-fan clubs devoted to figuring out how to get Wesley into an air lock and cycle it...

My wife commented that Lori should be next a few episodes ago.

Save the ammo just drive in circles running them down with the pickups.
Common people.
Who got munched in the winebago?
-
That was Jimmy.
-
Those people are the greatest shots of all time. Running vehicles full speed while doing endless head shots.
What a bunch of frigging idiots.
-
I wonder if it makes any sense to deliberately hunt zombies by use of traps?
There is a zombipocalypse book I read that had a character who was an IPSC shooter gone slightly nuts. He goes to a hospital where there is a horde of zombies behind the fence and runs stages for himself using them for reactive targets. Times himself and keeps scores, too.
Probably had something to do with the author shooting IPSC... :)
-
So much for the farm.
-
Lori and her stupid offspring survived for another season. I kept hoping she and the kid would get munched. She went full retard resentful after hubby Rick whacked Shane. I guess we now know where her loyalty really laid.
And I wonder who katana boy person in the hood will turn out to be? Maybe he's they are connected with the prison shown in the final scene.

I think I've even read that one. Is it a Russian-language novel? I believe you've mentioned being a Russian speaker in the past.

having never read the comics at first I thought the mysterious hooded figure was Merle and he had stuck a sword on his hand, then I did a rewind and checked out the figure in the hood ( and a fine figure she has )
Season 3 will be a lot better then two and a half.
motorcycle guy has angel wings sown on the back of his jacket, did you notice that the bad guy that Rick shot a few episodes ago ( the bar shootout ) had a shark Tee shirt?
poor planning on their part-always have a bugout location to meet at, standard family emergency planning

I rewound hooded savior several times, a hot bod underneath- rewind and freeze frame-yow!
imo they are gonna fortify the prison and move in, then anyone who disagrees with the ricktatorship has a nice safe cell to inhabit.
OH YEAH!! gas, you're surrounded by cars with plenty of gas in them and you somehow run out of fuel??? c'mon hollywood writers- no one in the future zombie apoc can figure out how to stick a knife in the gas tank of a huge abandoned truck? no gas delivery trucks on those highways? gee whiz!

Topix merged.

Yes and yes. :)

Oh, I have a funny feeling someone is already living at the prison...
And I can't even believe that no one ever took the time to put up some sort of perimeter fence or wall around the house.
-

I believe it. Life on the farm was complacent. No real walkers till the last episode.
Not sure they could have anticipated the super herd. Regular fences on the farm probably deflected most of the individual walkers and small groups.
-
They were convinced isolation was sufficient defense. In hindsight, a fuel-filled moat would have been nice.
-
...........And I wonder who katana boy person in the hood will turn out to be? Maybe he's they are connected with the prison shown in the final scene.
Michonne. They mentioned her in the folow-up show "The Talking Dead." She was apparantly a major character in the comics and will be next season.
-
"They were convinced isolation was sufficient defense. In hindsight, a fuel-filled moat would have been nice."
Which, considering the herd of walkers that moved through on the highway, was a pretty damned stupid thing.
I'm thinking I'd want 12-foot iron I beams (above ground) cemented into the ground, double covered with chain link fencing (inside and outside) and woven through with metal rope.
-

So...a prison?
-
That's if they had had a lick of sense and decided to fortify the farm.
-
Surprised nobody ever thought to reinforce the motor home door . . .
Anyone else notice that even though Herschell was blasting walker after walker with his shotgun for quite a while - standing in front of the house - he wasn't really stacking them up? Guess the ones he downed evaporated between shots . . . and he must've had big pockets to keep himself in shells for that long.
Also, towards the end, the walkers were moving away from the burning barn, even though it was collapsing noisily. So the walkers are attracted to and will follow a noisy helicopter, but not noise that's combined with fire.
-
That's if they had had a lick of sense and decided to fortify the farm.
Which brings up a good point..,in general, they don't really think about defense at all.
See abandoned hummers? Take RV.
See abandoned machine guns? Leave them.
No more BATFE? Don't make head/neck level cutting charge "ropes"
-
Additionally, the whole herd and noise issue means easy interdiction
Send a group at least a few miles away as a roving patrol...find group of walkers...shoot walkers.
If you pick a point beyond gunfire range, you will draw any herds away from your position. Since it seems like they kinda keep going straight, interdict two groups, one say 2-3 miles out, then one 4-5 miles out. Any walkers hearing the gunfire will by definition have their bearings changed away from your base.
Repeat periodically (say once a day) to ensnare more.
Better yet, find a natural choke point (river or pass), create a trap-fence to temporarily hold them And command detonated mines...seed with noise makers on a timer (fireworks, explosives, etc) to draw them in, return periodically to detonate, mop up remaining, and re-set trap.
River or small swampy area would be perfect, as we have seen that mud works damn well.
Which brings up another point, since the farm obviously has decent water supply (it's a FARM), no need for a moat, just a soaker-hose and strip the turf from a perimeter, dig a shallow trench, line with plastic to prevent water loss, refill with dirt, add water...mud trap.
Also, they don't even put up tangle-foot wire? Given the lack of coordination or good vision in the walkers...it seems like a quick, effective, and easy way to gain some time on a herd attack to engage.
Hell, they don't even do that in the comic!
Again, total reliance on counter-PERSON defenses, rather than counter-zombie...
-
Just found that actress Danai Gurira will be playing Michonne in the third season.
The figure who saved Andrea last night in the Season 2 finale was just a stand-in, according to the Walking Dead wiki site.

TV magic. At least they showed him reloading, and often show them on the show hitting slide lock, checking magzines, and performing reloads. They must at least be listening to the technical firearms advisors some.
I'm tempted to get the comics, but not sure I want to completely spoil the next season for myself.

The armless walkers on chains with her....that oughta be interesting.

"So the walkers are attracted to and will follow a noisy helicopter, but not noise that's combined with fire."
My guess?
They were following the sound of Darryl's motorcycle.
-
"The armless walkers on chains with her....that oughta be interesting."
In the comics they're her ex husband or boyfriend (can't remember) and his best friend.
They attacked and killed her two kids.
She keeps them on chains because it apparently lets her travel through walkers without being detected.
-

At this point, the show has had a number of significant deviations from the comics. IMO, reading the comics wouldn't have spoiled much so far.

That was my second guess. First guess was batshit crazy.
I'd like to see more of a comic book feel enter the series, and a chick with pet walkers certainly fits that bill.

Well, you can't completely spoil it as they are only using the comics as a broad guide. There are characters who don't exist in the comic (Merle, Darryl), characters who have died on the show who are still around in the comic, and characters who have died on the show who survive quite some time after The Farm before finally dying.

Some interesting ink on Michonne.
Read the related links at the bottom of the page, too. Some neat stuff there, as well.

Almost any "horror" movie would be especially short if any of the characters weren't spectacularly dumb. Obviously, the applies especially to a "horror" television series.
(I'm guessing it's because the writers are lazy.)
-
Yep. Inept and stupid choices are the easiest way to place the protagonists into frightening, dangerous and dramatic sequences.
Having very thoughtful and creative zombie killers who take little risk without great reward, and don't do stupid *expletive deleted*it would mean that writers would have to work much harder.
And Lori is an epic dumbass.

Is Lori the jackwagon who took a rifle shot when the sun was interfering with her sightpicture, and when the sheriff was closer and knew what was going on? IIRC she hit Mr. Crossbow in the side of the head, hurting him but (thankfully) not killing him.
That was one idiotic thing that stands out particularly for me. I was yelling at the TV "YOU DON"T TAKE A SHOT UNDER THOSE CONDITIONS! ONLY A JACKASS TAKES A ---DAMN, THE JACKASS SHOT!!!!"
-
That wasn't actually her, but rather the blonde.

Yes. And that particular blonde has been pretty capable throughout.
There were 5 or 6 times I wanted to slap Carl silly.
There were slow spots in this season. But overall I think it was very good television. The eddying and building tension buildup between Rick and Shane was, in the two last last episodes, brilliant. The fact that Shane ended up dead was not a surprise but how it was accomplished was. Rick plays to expectations--and then WHAM. Very satisfying conclusion to that subplot. However...Rick does seem to have a little bit of Shane in him now since "this is not a democracy anymore."
Looking forward to the next season and the return of Merle!

While I'm just as annoyed by the stoopid, I'm trying tolet go of my skepticism and treating it like a trashy serial/soap opera, with better production values. It's entertainment, after all. Also looking forward to the return of Hell on Wheels.

Lori is the mom who told her husband to deal with his best friend who she has had an affair with because she thought her husband was dead. Then when he deals with the friend who has been affairing with the wife she gets all angry with him.
Lori also took off from the group, alone, without telling anyone and crashed her car because she was reading a map while driving setting herself up to be attacked, she had left her sidearm on the seat next to her, so naturally when she flipped the car and was getting attacked she had no idea where the gun was.

That doesn't sound too bright either! =D [popcorn]
Seriously, it's been awhile & keeping track of some of the character's names has proved a bit of a challenge for me.  ;) ;/ ;/ ;/

Which one's Merle?
-
D
Which one's Merle?
Daryl's brother. A chip off the old block, at least before Daryl started to lose some of his rougher edges.
-
Rewatching the "vato" episode with a buddy tonight. The writers subverted the hispanic gangbangers trope beautifully.

And he's coming back? Handless?
Damn. Daryl was finally on his way to casting off his inferiority complex and becoming a decent person. What a shame. Unless Daryl ends up being the one to put Merle down.
-
Maybe there will be a redemption arc for Merle as well.

Merle is back! And he's got a mother*expletive deleted*ing bayonet strapped to his stump!

Edited: Never mind. Just figured it out.

Wait! Did it start tonight?
No, it's over. It is now on Netflix streaming. If you are referring to our presidential candidates, then yes.

"This is my...um...Pokestick!"
Is that a pokestick on your stump, or are you just glad to see me?.....

I get the feeling Michael Rooker is just as nuts in real life as most of the characters he plays. He just looks natural in that pic.
