Title: Roseanne Roseannadanna was right
Post by: Hawkmoon on December 01, 2020, 12:00:26 PM
"If it's not one thing ... it's another."

Lost my Internet a week ago. Then found a puddle of water under the boiler in the basement. Faucet broke in one of the bathrooms. Just another day at the office.

The water turned out to be a pinhole in a copper elbow, so I don't need a new boiler. That's the good news. But the tech found that the expansion tank is waterlogged, so that needs to be replaced. I can replace the faucet -- but the shutoff valves don't work, so I'll have to shut off the water to the entire house while I do that job.

After a week's outage and two cancelled appointments, the cable company finally sent a tech out yesterday (Monday). 15 minute fix. Cool. Except that I woke up this morning with no Internet, so I'm back on cellular WiFi until further notice.

And then, yesterday evening, I put some fish sticks in the toaster oven and set the timer for 13 minutes. When the timer rang, I went to put my dinner on a plate ... and it was cold. So now I need a new toaster oven.

So what's a good, basic 4-slice toaster oven? The one that failed was a GE/Black & Decker. It worked "okay" as an oven, but it never toasted evenly, regardless of whether I wanted to toast one, two, or four slices. One side always burned before the other side browned. So I'd like to avoid Black & Decker. Leaving them out of the equation, who makes the best affordable, no frills toaster ovens?

"But the tech found that the expansion tank is waterlogged, so that needs to be replaced."

I'm assuming that it's a modern bladder tank, and the bladder has failed?

I'm still not able to figure out exactly why you got rusty, dirty water out of your hot water faucets if the problem was a pinholed elbow external to the tank.

But, for toaster ovens, I really like my Hamiton Beech toaster oven air fryer I got early this year, but that may be overkill for you -- it's either a 6 or 8 slice and quite large.

However, I know a couple of people who have this style of HB toaster oven and they are quite fond of them:

What's your idea of "no frills" and "affordable"? Prices and features are all over the place but it seems there is a direct correlation between customer satisfaction, performance, reliability, and price up to around the $200 mark. Beyond that you're paying for gadgets and brand names.

Yeah, maybe shouldn't have bought the house built over an old Indian cemetery.

Yeah. I need a shaman to perform a smudging ceremony.

Dis must be de place.

Used to be Springtime was my "slings and arrows of outrageous fortune" time of the year, but 2020 has blurred that quite a bit.

Maybe I need an exorcist to get the evil spirits out of my shoulder.

If your wife was a Navajo, she could get a shaman to perform a Blessing Way for you. Does her tribe have an equivalent?

I'm thinking that with the bullshit Larry's had to put up with this year they ought to throw an Enemy Way in with that....

It's the only way to be sure...

She's Cherokee, all they got is casinos and crooked tribal politicians.

I thought all tribes had those. In this corner of the yoo ess ay, there are multiple groups of people claiming to be the long-lost remnants of this or that tribe, and they all want a city block sized parcel of land as a "reservation" so they can open up a casino. We already have multiple tribes that do have recognition and a reservation, and each of them has a casino. I keep wondering how many casinos the market can support ... and these igjits really want to find out.

I also see a lot of ads on TV for on-line betting.  I'll bet the Indian casino owners don't like that...

Ummm, unless the on-line betting thing is part of the Indian casino "industry" in the first place.

I'm not a gambler, so I don't know about these things.
