Title: Short Article on Coast Guard Snipers
Post by: Ben on October 24, 2018, 09:56:22 AM
They've gotta be the only sniper outfit who's main mission is disabling stuff versus terminating live targets. They apparently place pretty high in sniper competitions (9th in the 2018 International). I think it would be fun to train moving platform to moving target.

I think one factor may be units with time on their hands to train for a competition. Also in a guard or reserve outfit the same more senior guys can stay there forever. And in this case the same spotter/sniper team train year after year. Also, thanks to a 17 year war there is plenty of experience in the reserve units. I think last year a guard outfit won best ranger competition too.

I notice that our SEALs sucked. Probably spotted on the stalk when they stopped to brush their hair or take a book deal call. I saw the results yesterday and wasted no time telling my former Marine boss that the puddle pirates beat his guys.

To stand up for the honor of the Corps,  I've got a meritorious mast in my basement somewhere for battalion highest rifle qual.  The Scout snipers were *expletive deleted*ing livid that a 06 POG thumped them, but it hardly means anything in real warfighting.

Good on the puddle pirates though, and the other 7 in front of them.
