This is going to be an ugly couple of weeks.

Weekend is gonna be sporty.
SWMBO and I have already decided it's a good time to stay at home and watch movies. Let the crazies weed themselves out over the weekend.

What I'm wondering - will the looters somehow figure out to take advantage of any of the crazy demonstrations?
-
Joys of living in flyover country, I don't need to change weekend plans in fear of a protest. If there is a protest, it will be a handful of people in the park holding signs, maybe a drum and a couple pink hats.

Yup. Worst that will happen here is some crying and pouting in Boise. In the meantime, I'll be far from that in my hammock, with an Old-Fashioned this weekend. =)

Don't they always?

Protests aren't what concern us. Anything here would be what you describe. It's the random crazies walking through parking lots we'd rather avoid. Plus, it's just gonna be weird anyway and it'll be hot out. Easier to couch up under the A/C and be lazy. There are a couple of movies we've been wanting to see and we both want to get caught up on a few series. Throw in a fair bit of YouTube, some RDR2/GTA/WoT, and the occasional nap. At some point I also have to parcel and bag bulk foodstuffs that arrived yesterday. Biggest issue will be rearranging the freezer so it will all fit.

Can the Pink Hats mobilize the Looters? That's the question here in Major Metro South Central...

I get all kinds of French news feeds on my phone. The French news is 100 % sensational genre "right to abortion completely abolished in US; women's rights reverted 200 years, theocracy officially installed". It's not even accurate or informative about what actually happened.
-
It's going to be hot (>100F), humid, and sunny here, so aside from a few of the usual suspects holding up picket signs in downtown Austin, TX I don't anticipate any real problems - certainly none in my suburb.
It's bizarre how many of the same people who think abortion (which isn't mentioned in the Constitution at all) is a totally protected and unrestricted Constitutional right also insist that owning firearms (which is explicitly called out and protected in the Constitition's Bill of Rights) isn't really a right at all.
-
There will be blood in the alleys
I expect there will be reports of women dying in alleys by late afternoon

In France, you can be imprisoned for two years for the "crime" of trying to persuade a woman not to have an abortion:

I just checked a few kraut news sources. So far they at least all say that it is not an outright ban, but will be left to the states. Though a couple of them said that women are no longer equal citizens. They all mentioned "up to 24 weeks". I'm not sure if they were unaware of, or purposely left out, what really rallied many here against Roe v Wade: The talk of "unrestricted up until birth (and beyond) abortions.
I'm thinking Europeans would be similar to US citizens in what we've talked about here often (whether you agree with it or not), in that many people are okay with abortion up until the first trimester, but only very few (but vocal) pro-abortion people are okay with abortion up until birth.
It's further interesting that the kraut publications seemed to look at it (again, <24 weeks) as some kind of attack against women, since abortion is technically illegal (but not punished in the first trimester) in Germany.

Abortion laws are far from uniform throughout Europe. The stage of abortion that is allowed, types of abortion allowed, justification, penalties, regulations on the "industry" (it really sickens me to speak of an "abortion industry" but there really is such a thing). The overall picture is that, maybe as expected, US states are slightly more conservative than European countries as a lump, but there's a lot of overlap with some very liberal US states and very conservative European countries. Again this just goes to show that abolition of RvW is basically overblown no matter what side you are on.
Of course I'm sure the globalists are also upset that European countries can still have their own abortion laws and they would probably push for some kind of pan-EU abortion law if they could, and will as soon as they can, because globalists will stop at nothing to eradicate any diversity of thought or culture.

Any thing to spread misinformation to rile up the liberal base. Pretty soon this ruling will cause every state to start enforcing their sodomy laws, consenting adults or not! Whoops, there goes gay marriages and quite a few hetero marriages also. ;)

I like mine with rye. Usually High West Double Rye. I muddle sugar, an orange slice, and I use orange bitters instead of regular bitters. If I'm feeling mixologist-y and I remember, I make a couple of iceballs on Friday (spherical ice cube molds designed to just fit in an old-fashioned glass), add one to the glass, and fill with whiskey. Else if I'm lazy, just a handful of ice, which waters it down, but also leaves me with a cold drink when it's warm outside. =)

In his concurring opinion Thomas said that “substantive due process” is an erroneous standard and all decisions based on should be reviewed. Which includes Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell. The other 4 in the majority of Dobbs may or may not agree with that, but it’s not just leftists hyperventilating.
That said, it’s not legality of contraception, sodomy between consenting adults, or SSM that is, per se, at risk. Just the SCOTUS rulings that have forced states to allow it. Just like with overturning RvW and Casey doesn’t outlaw abortion, overturning those other cases will merely return those questions to the states. Which, really, is where they belong.

I see a distinct lack of common sense on both sides... Incest, rape, what have you, that's the decision that only the victim is responsible for.
But don't drag it out to 30-35 weeks....

What really scares me are the people (and I'ma using that term loosely...) who crow about how they want abortions - how they've had x-number... and want more...
Those people scare me.

Anyone have info on the WHY?
Why did SCOTUS overturn RvW? Was it because they wanted to and this case was the one that let SCOTUS do it?
Or was this case just just decided on merit and that created a problem with the RvW ruling?

Honestly, Bogie, I think the world would be better if those people were just sterilized.
Flip side: there are lots of women who WANT to be sterilized, and doctors won't do it...

I wonder if we would be at this point if "they" weren't selling dead baby parts, having abortions at full term/day of birth and crowing about how awesome it is to have an abortion.
-
So, let me get this straight... according to the Democrats
When it comes to abortion, it is an incontrovertible personal and Constitutional right, and NO ONE has any right at all to tell you, or anyone else, what you should do with your body...
BUT
When it comes to Covid vaccines, you have absolutely NO incontrovertible personal or Constitutional right to refuse a vaccine and you MUST bow to the power of the state when it tells you what to do with your body.
Glad that's clear and consistent.
-
And just like that democrats know what a woman is.
-
I wonder if we would be at this point if "they" weren't selling dead baby parts, having abortions at full term/day of birth and crowing about how awesome it is to have an abortion.
This is exactly the stuff that turned fence-sitters and ambivalent people against them. Even if it was only a vocal minority of pro-abortion people that "made abortions fun and profitable", the videos of baby parts, and the sick twentysomethings having youtube parties and talking about abortions being fun, most certainly made the otherwise ambivalent stop and think.
Had they continued "rare and safe and first trimester", we would likely still be in the status quo. The nutjobs were bad for pro-abortion people and good for pro-life people.
At least, as mentioned above, the states where abortions will still freely occur will be the states that see all the damage from violent mobs. I do feel bad for normal people who live in the big cities of those states.
-

But don't drag it out to 30-35 weeks....
Rape is a horrific crime. I think rapists should all be executed. I don't think it is okay to execute the children of rapists. It doesn't make sense to say it is wrong to kill unwanted child produced by consensual sex, but okay to kill the child produced by rape. The right not to be killed is not based on who our father is; it is based on the fact that we are living human beings.
Kill the evil rapists, and comfort the victims; don't create new victims by killing a human being who did nothing wrong.
Take a look at this living fetus at nine weeks; would it be okay to kill this baby if his or her father was an evil man?

Fun fact: the majority, if not virtually all of USA Catholic hospitals will not allow permanent sterilizations on male or female patients to be done at their facilities. This is Directive 53 of the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services. More and more people are dismayed to find this out as more and more secular hospitals are acquired by Catholic healthcare systems.

Frankly, I think that the PRIMARY reason why the left screeches about how important abortion is...
...is because it gets conservative people torqued.

Speaking as the guy who does malpractice defense for a living, I have never seen, and I think there are a miniscule number of, lawsuits based on changing your mind after a tubal ligation. These would be informed consent cases, and once I submitted the signed consent form into evidence showing the patient was informed this would be permanent and other methods of birth control are available, I would expect to have the case dismissed on summary judgement. What I do see more commonly are lawsuits because the tubal ligation or vasectomy did not work and someone ended up pregnant.

https://www.scotusblog.com/2022/06/supreme-court-overturns-constitutional-right-to-abortion/
Not sure if this is what you were looking for.
The decision came in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, a challenge to a 2018 Mississippi law that bans virtually all abortions after the 15th week of pregnancy. The law carves out exceptions for medical emergencies and cases involving a “severe fetal abnormality” but does not make exceptions for cases involving rape or incest. It never went into effect, however, because the lower courts – including the conservative U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit – found the law clearly inconsistent with Roe and Caseyand blocked the state from enforcing it. Friday’s decision reversed the lower courts and upheld the law.
Alito began his 79-page opinion by observing that abortion “presents a profound moral issue on which Americans hold sharply conflicting views.” But the Constitution does not refer to abortion at all, Alito stressed. And although the Supreme Court has recognized some constitutional rights as protected by the due process clause, even if they are not expressly mentioned in the Constitution, the right to an abortion is not one of them, Alito explained. Among other things, he noted, the court has required such rights to be “deeply rooted in our Nation’s history.” But until the second half of the 20th century, Alito observed, there was no support in U.S. law for the right to an abortion – indeed, he pointed out, most states regarded abortion as a crime.

More fun facts: the standard of care in defending failed vasectomy cases is to do a DNA test on the child to see if the person with the failed vasectomy is indeed the father. You would be surprised how often it isn't, and then the mother has some explaining to do.

Makes sense. Though a semen analysis would also prove if the vasectomy failed.

Aside from the comments about gun owners, these rioters have only been able to riot in areas where the mayor and DA are supporting them. Everywhere else, they do a short protest and then they are done.
I was thinking I remember a story from either Portland or Minneapolis where a protest group tried to go into a neighborhood, someone shot a few rounds over their head, and they went somewhere else.

Thomas did apparently mention that some of those decisions need to be revisited. I am not sure if it was that one.
I seem to recall when the decision was issued to nullify a Texas anti-sodomy law, there were justices who thought it was a state issue and the SC should let it stay at that level. I would say it either would be that or they think some other legal basis should be used.
-

It isn't one that he mentioned, and the dissenting justices don't seem to be talking about implications for interracial marriage, either. It's just fear mongering.
