I have seen the following speculation, and have no idea if it is true.

1. We dropped something very heavy on the mountain where the tests were being conducted, OR some other direct action happened. Occams razor probably dictates that the Norks just demo'd their own mountain accidentally.

2. Kim was being held hostage by his own military until very recently, and some sort of direct or indirect action took place, possibly with Chinese support, that resulted in easing up on that leverage.

Did everyone forget that Kim went to China not all that long ago ??  That it was his first official trip ever out of Norkland.   Anybody want to bet the he DID NOT have a come to Mao meeting with Xi ??  China wants their buffer state and good trade relations with the US (Its largest market), and China is Norkland's biggest trade partner.  And the Chicoms are doing a pretty good job of enforcing the sanctions against NK, so that's really hurting their economy. And from what I understand, so is Russia (There are lots of Nork "Guest Workers" in both countries that basically remit everything they make back to NK.)

Kim was told to play nice or else, by Xi.

How soon can we expect that federal judge in Hawaii to rule.that the Korean war has to continue ?
