The Rational Mind
(My Soul Is At Peace With My Maker)
By Papa Mali Welbourne
My soul is at peace with my maker
My conviction is as strong, as my faith is blind
The truth, as we know it, gets harder to find
When we put all our faith In the rational mind.
You won't see me in church on Sunday
And you may not approve of the company I keep
But go easy on me and I'll mention your name
When I say my nightly prayers as I lay me down to sleep
As I lay my body down, close my eyes upon the day
Won't you hear my simple prayer
Oh Lord, this I pray
Keep my woman free from harm; keep my children safe and warm
And show me a sign so that I may find a way
As I lay my poor body down, close my eyes upon the day
Won't you hear my simple prayer
Oh Lord, this I pray
Keep my loved ones free from harm
Keep my children safe and warm
And show me a sign, so that I might find my way
My soul is at peace with my maker

Can't remember if the words were appropriate, just the first thing I thought of.
Maybe the Streets of Laredo would be better.

Whatever my wife's least favorite songs is, going to have to be the one with a long electric guitar solo. I want to get the last jab in.
So probably Stranglehold by Ted Nugent or Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd

The Walton & Johnson radio show has kicked off with Little Bird by Stevie Ray Vaughn for years now. They cut it short sometimes.

All I am going to get is Taps after they throw my earthly remains off of the fantail of some ship plying the waters of the Pacific Ocean.

If I go before my wife, I'd love to have Gorton a Ran from Blackhawk Down...

The lyrics are in Breton. It's a farewell from a warrior to his love.
Others include Nothing Else Matters by Metallica,
Say Hello Goodbye by Phil Collins.

I'd like to amend my request to the Sad Trombone, but it must be played on a kazoo.

Gordon Lightfoot, "The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald". Twice. >:D (best song ever for getting people to leave at the end of a party)

I've spent some time over the last few years thinking about this.

My first thought was Amazing Grace on the bagpipes. But I went with this acoustic version of something to remind you.

Maybe I’ll go with this classic. What do you all think?

Did that a few times. Didn't want to have orange earplugs showing in the video for the family. They played taps. They fired the salute, I was closest to the honor guard and they did not have blanks for the M-14s, but line launching charges. Lot more boom. Dixie cup full of powder, very difficult to not move with guns firing behind you, why no doc, can't imagine why my hearing is perma-forked.

7734 by Sabaton. Because it may as well be metal.
Almighty lord we have come to your hall

That or Amazing Grace on the pipes. Guy at the VFW plays and it'll tear your heart out.

Nothing particular in mind but I'd like it to be something decidedly inappropriate.
About 15 years ago the adult son a good friend of mine was killed by a drunk driver while test driving a motorcycle.
"I Like Big Butts" was the young man's favorite song, sort of his theme song. It was played at the funeral.
As a side note, the young man had just 2 weeks prior returned from his 2nd deployment to the Afghanistan.
My friend was killed 2 years ago by a drunk driver when the drunk ran his bike into a guardrail.

As a DD-214 holder, I could get Taps and a flag for the wife. Will probably do that at the very end of it all then a drive out the Kisatchie National Forest just outside Pollock, LA to scatter my ashes in the woods there near "Big Creek".

As people are being seated: Largo, From the New World symphony No. 9 in E minor, Opus 95, Dvorak

I have a Viking funeral planned. Haven’t decided on music yet. Maybe Jonny cash ring of fire.
I was at a funeral for a friend and they played Elvis gospel music. That was pretty cool.

Thunderstruck looped with Dr. McCoy saying "He's dead, Jim!"

Me too, though nothing is on paper. A “good” friend has been told to acquire a boat for it. That way I can provide some entertainment when the rightful owner comes running out to inquire why his boat is floating away, and in flames...

(Don't Fear) The Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult. Contrary to popular belief, it is not a song about suicide. It is about love transcending death, how two people can be together in eternity.
-
I'm surprised none of you troublemakers hasn't mentioned John Prine's Please Don't Bury Me.
But I'm going to go with Come On Up To The House. This version, not the Tom Waits original.

Actually, "For All the Saints (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbPshOGxpew)" (alt (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qVjLq8s9OY)), with the Vaughn Williams tune ("Sine Nomine"), or something like this (https://youtu.be/5mPP_kwu3kc).

That's easy. Open Casket at least 20 feet away from people and the song Pop Goes the Weasel.
