(Corned) Beef - it's what's for dinner!

Mrs. G-98 even got me a 6-pack of Guinness to warsh it down with tonight. As soon as I started cooking this morning, she went shopping. I don't expect to see her home for dinner, she hates the stuff. Go figure, I'm German, she's Irish. Wink

To everyone else, the official beer of St. Patricks day is, to me, and should be GUINNESS, from the St. James Gate brewery in Ireland.

Green-colored rice-and-corn weak, gassy lager is an American abomination, and I have no idea how it came about.

Have a Guinness with your corned-beef-and-cabbage, or, if you don't like stouts, a Harp lager or Smithwicks (pronounce "smitticks") ale.

I'm half Irish and I can't stand corned beef...now lamb, OTOH, is excellent.

Guinness is good, as is Murphy's, but I am in the mood for Harp.

I'm Norwegian and I don't think we even have a saint. We would probably celebrate his/her day by being punctual and clean.

Here's an Rx for what ails you. grin

2 slices rye bread, thick-sliced corned beef, Swiss cheese, some cabbage 'n onions (or 'kraut) and brown mustard. Toast it in the oven for a few minutes. Wash it down with Guinness.

If that doesn't help, there's no hope for you. laugh

So all this talk of St. Patrick's Day and no mention of the cricket or the rugby that took place on yesterday? Maybe you're all just in it for the beer.

At the cricket world cup yesterday the Irish side beat Pakistan. The difference between the levels of historic success, present world ranking and skill levels of the players involved are hard to convey. Pakistan are an elite level side, they have one or two of the best players in the world. Ireland were a bit of a joke really.

Also, the Irish rugby team beat Italy yesterday. That gave them a 4 wins 1 loss result in the 6 Nations. France had to win their game to match that, and win by 20 something points to win the 6 Nations. They just did it.

Damn. That's twice now. Ireland will beat France next year and win the damned tournament. They have to be a bit perturbed at having lost in the exact same way, two years in a row.
