Happy St. Patrick's Day!
« on: March 17, 2007, 09:38:48 AM »
(Corned) Beef - it's what's for dinner!

Mrs. G-98 even got me a 6-pack of Guinness to warsh it down with tonight. As soon as I started cooking this morning, she went shopping.  I don't expect to see her home for dinner, she hates the stuff. Go figure, I'm German, she's Irish.  Wink

And a happy St. Patrick's day to you!  I've got the green food coloring at hand for the festive beverages tonight!

Gewehr98, THANK you.

To everyone else, the official beer of St. Patricks day is, to me, and should be GUINNESS, from the St. James Gate brewery in Ireland.

Green-colored rice-and-corn weak, gassy lager is an American abomination, and I have no idea how it came about.

Have a Guinness with your corned-beef-and-cabbage, or, if you don't like stouts, a Harp lager or Smithwicks (pronounce "smitticks") ale.

Guinness is indeed the greatest beer ever. But only on tap; out of a bottle or can it's an abomination. Wink

I'm half Irish and I can't stand corned beef...now lamb, OTOH, is excellent.

Guinness is good, as is Murphy's, but I am in the mood for Harp.

Corned beef is on the menu at my place tonight as well.  I'll get some Guinness to enjoy.

I'm Irish and I don't go near corned beef.  Nasty stuff.  Guinness, on the other hand will be consumed in considerable quantities tonight.

I'm Norwegian and I don't think we even have a saint. We would probably celebrate his/her day by being punctual and clean.

Is it the corned beef and cabbage she hates, or the inevitable after-effects?   grin

She hates both the meal and the after-effects, and refers to me as Field Marshal von Hindenburg.

My version was Latha math Naomh-Padraig but of course I just figured that out on my own, and besides I'm (sorta) learning the Scots version (Gaidhlig).

All nasty.

So I take it you wouldn't go to Angeles City, P.I. with me and partake of a little balut after we leave the delights of the Nepa Hut?  grin

(There are varying shades of nasty depending on one's palate, and I wouldn't eat the dish I prepared in the picture above if I thought it was nasty)

Balut and Gaegogi are right up there, though, trust me.

I don't know, Gewehr, it depends.  I've eaten live ants before, and liked them.  Sorta lemony.   smiley

corned beef, cabbage, guinness, beer.

All nasty.

Here's an Rx for what ails you.  grin

2 slices rye bread, thick-sliced corned beef, Swiss cheese, some cabbage 'n onions (or 'kraut) and brown mustard. Toast it in the oven for a few minutes. Wash it down with Guinness.

If that doesn't help, there's no hope for you.  laugh

You're joking, right?

You've never heard of Olaf II, the patron saint of Norway?

And since when do the Irish need a saint's day to drink beer? Smiley (I'm Welsh and German...)

So all this talk of St. Patrick's Day and no mention of the cricket or the rugby that took place on yesterday? Maybe you're all just in it for the beer.

At the cricket world cup yesterday the Irish side beat Pakistan. The difference between the levels of historic success, present world ranking and skill levels of the players involved are hard to convey. Pakistan are an elite level side, they have one or two of the best players in the world. Ireland were a bit of a joke really.

Also, the Irish rugby team beat Italy yesterday. That gave them a 4 wins 1 loss result in the 6 Nations. France had to win their game to match that, and win by 20 something points to win the 6 Nations. They just did it.
I do not like, when with me play, and I think that you also

Damn.  That's twice now.  Ireland will beat France next year and win the damned tournament.  They have to be a bit perturbed at having lost in the exact same way, two years in a row.
