A Common Sense Gun Law
« on: October 22, 2015, 04:15:03 PM »
This is a gun law I can get behind. It appears it would pre-empt state laws.

Whether or not it passes, I would love for this to get some attention from the media. The left-wing melt-down would be just so scrumptious.

Assuming this passes, and suppressors go mainstream, how much would one expect to pay for a silencer for a .22 pistol?

It's just a threaded tube with some conical baffles in it, or a monocore with angled pieces in it that's more complex, but nothing for a CNC machine to knock one out every 15 minutes. If you don't care about how much it weighs, they might be as low as $100 or less. If you do care about how much it weighs, like on a pistol, then some better aluminum alloys that are lightweight, but can handle heat and blast need to be used, and that'll cost more.
I promise not to duck.

Yes, especially since they are pushing it as health and safety legislation. Aren't we all entitled to good health, including protection from hearing loss?

Seems to me suppressors should be a covered medical expense on your Obamacare policy.  >:D

Makes sense to me.  Lets treat them like mufflers on cars.  Win win.

It would sure make me like my AR even more if I could drop its dbs some!

Do you still need to wear plugs with a suppressed AR?

Some folks will argue, but you really should*. The sonic crack is pretty loud. That said, the couple times I got ahold of one, I didn't.

*Assumes 5.56. Subsonic. 300blk, or 9mm or something then no.

Makes sense, didn't think that one through before I asked.

You should wear hearing protection even with 22lr.

Supressed subsonic 300BO is still over 130dB:

Hearing protection never hurts.
I've seen figures from high 120s to low 130s for suppressed subsonic .300, which is still about the level of sound hitting your ears while shooting unsuppressed 556 with hearing protection.
I've shot a suppressed .300blk before- its quieter than some pneumatic nail guns I've used in the past.
I've shot a suppressed 556- definitely not hearing safe, but close.

So cops would issue tickets to people who DON'T have suppressors on their firearms?

I like it.

I have hyperacusis and tinnitus because I shot a shotgun while wearing only ear plugs.  My ear is hurting right this second.  I was injured by sound in early 2012.

It is horrific.
