We got lucky. Kim Jong Il was only 69. We could have had 20 more years of the guy.
The Kim Jong Un is a cipher, at least to me. Reports on him vary from "dilettantish", even more in love with Western luxuries than his father was, to "even worse than dad". I don't think anyone even knew he existed until about a year ago.
I think the #1 issue affecting the longevity of the Norks is China's interests in preventing a flood of refugees, or some sort of instability that sucks them in and drains manpower/money to stabilize things. China obviously loved North Korea at one point, because they sucked up a lot of time and energy and attention of the U.S. and Allies. Now, one gets the sense that the North is barely worth the trouble, or has already exceeded that point, save for the reasons of saving face...
I also suspect that China has kept one eye on the Norks as a Trojan Horse for the past decade or so. Weighing the might of a unified Korea that competes with China against the benefits of bankrupting the South with reunification. Think German reunification, only 100x worse in terms of social, humanitarian, and infrastructure costs.
Japan would also benefit massively from reunification, in both the removal of the North as a threat, and the South as a competitor. (For instance, Samsung or LG could outright buy Sony, with liquid cash on hand...)
Let's see, Kim Il Sung, then Kim Jong Il, then Kim Jong Un..........I guess the son doesn't have a license to Il.
(some of you may be too old or young to get that one)
Most of us are old enough to know our Beastie Boys. He'll, I'd have thought it was the opposite... too old.
There's rumors of anti-Jong Un graffiti in some remote North Korean towns, but any info as to how this news would get out so quickly, or at all, is far-fetched. The further speculation being that it's a toe in the water for a military coup by a cabal of generals or an intelligence service, thinking no civilian would have the guts to do so. I personally think it' just rumor at this point.
