I came across this recently.  It is a good laugh.

When asked how he got away with it for so long, he replied: “I found out a long time ago that everything can be proven with a mathematical equation. Now, I mean everything; from unicorns, fire-breathing dragons, God and even the G-spot. None of it is true.

Article is probably close to reality. Typically at the forefront of any technology, nobody understands. When we hire new college grads they are usually disappointed to find we don't actually know what we are doing and in many cases, we aren't spending tons of resources to find out. It's not necessary to know what you are doing to make money doing it.
