I guess it's finally dawned on the poobahs in the goobermink that maybe putting the social security number (SSN) on just everything "as a unique identifying number" is not working. (Remember when your SS card had Not For Identification in red right across the front of it?)
OK, so I got a new Medicare card today where the SSN number was removed and a new un-social-security-number-like number was in its place, with strict-sounding instructions to "utterly destroy" my old Medicare card. In at least five languages...,. which kind of upsets me, but that's not the real problem.
I looked at my old card and on it, it plainly said
SEX
MALE
There is no indication of gender at all on the new card.
SEX
MALE
is gone.
So what now?
Should I take
Gender: Male
off my forum profile?
I thought gender and birth date (DOB) were the two biggest ID-ing factors in any search or data-mining. DOB eliminates 364/365ths of the data bank, the gender eliminates ~half of those.
Am I now genderless? Can I use either bathroom now?
Dammit, I liked being
SEX
MALE
What now?

They come blank so you can fill in any gender identity you ..um identify with.

Laminate it, that way you can grease pencil it if things change week to week. Or write in "yes" if the check in girl at the doctor is cute.

So Medicare will tattoo a new identifying number to your backside so you have to drop your pants to sign in at the front desk. I guess that is why some politicians want everyone on Medicare.

Bumping this just so it's at the very top with the manning thread again

What now?
Can you sing soprano? Maybe a career in opera ...
