Post by: TimH on April 21, 2005, 04:16:29 PM
Has anyone ever tried this stuff for their dog? We have 2 dogs that get nervous when it thunders. I was wondering if it works. Thanks TIm

My vet gave us Zanax (sp?) during the last bout of hurricanes for our dogs.  Didn't do diddly so I seriously doubt some OTC product will have any effect.  However, your dogs are not my dogs so the results may be different for you.

Looks like its from the same people who manufacture Feliway, which is targeted for cats.  I have used THAT with some success.  It has helped one large, but rather nerotic cat mellow out on a day to day basis and not be fearfull that he's gonna get jumped by the other cats.  It takes about 24-36 hours to kick in for the cats.  I CAN tell when it runs out by the change in behaivor of noted cat, so I'd wager the product for dogs will work as well.

Thanks for the replies.

Sindawe, sounds like it works for your cat. I'm thinking about giving it a try. Does it work if the windows are open like during the summer?

TarpleyG, you mentioned Xanax. A friend of ours uses Prozack for her dogs. It worked pretty good. I think I would need it also during a hurricane rolleyes
