Wish I was making this up.
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. -- A couple arguing about which gang their 4-year-old toddler should join caused a public disturbance that resulted in the father's arrest, Commerce City police said Thursday, reported KMGH-TV in Denver.
On Saturday, Joseph Manzanares stormed into a video rental store where his girlfriend worked, threatened to kill her and knocked over several video displays and even a computer, Commerce City police Sgt. Joe Sandoval said.
After he ran out of the store, police were called and the 19-year-old was arrested at his home.
His girlfriend told police that they had been arguing about the upbringing of their son and which gang he should belong to. The teen mother, who is black, told authorities she is a member of the Crips, police said. Manzanares is Hispanic and belongs to the Westside Ballers gang, the woman told police.
"They have different ideas on how the baby should be raised. Basically, she said they cannot agree on which gang the baby would 'claim,'" Sandoval said.
Manzanares was charged with disorderly conduct, harassment, and domestic violence. He was transported to the Adams County Detention Facility.
On Tuesday, he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was sentenced to 12 months of probation and ordered to pay $835 in court costs, according to the Denver Post. The misdemeanor harassment charge was dropped.

Ye gawds!

Well the child is 4 now and the "father" is 19, no mention of the age of the mother but at least we know he has fathered at least one child when he was 14 or 15. I imagine the mother is about the same age.
Be interesting to see how much of a rival of one another these gangs are. Could see some gang on gang violence erupt in Commerce City.
From what I remember of Commerce, it is a small town about half way between Denver and Colorado Springs.

Crips or Ballers, Montague or Capulet...decisions, decisions.
-
I'd go for the Crips myself, more brand name recognition...

....and it will probably end as well for all involved.....

Gangs? In Colorado?
What are the gangs in Red? The Six Toes? The One Tooths? The Lillies?
-
That is a blood line that needs to end.

Examples of an urban problem that was accurately predicted a generation ago: feral youth.
-
I don't think feral youth are anything new at all. What you have now is feral youth breeding feral youth. How low can you go?
-
Child protection takes the kid, mandatory sterilization for the parents.
As to feral youth, if this keeps up, they're going to have to re-legalize full-autos. Because that'll be the only way to see off entire gangs that suddenly swarm people like a group of hyenas.
Thankfully, though, they're mostly focusing on killing each other before they reach age 20.
-
Gangs are why I feel under gunned with only my 642 S&W.
I've seen 40 to 0ver one hundred gang members swarming in attack on one or two people in the 1980's in NYC.

In this case, could you really consider them feral? After all, here we have a primitive custodial dispute between two rival tribes...
The fact that the mother was allowed to live indicates some progress.
Now, the fact that they feel the need to belong to what's essentially a sub-tribe rather than holding to family/state/country is a problem.

And peak of the bell curve continues to skew further and further left...
Darwin - where are ya when we really need ya?

Darwin was derailed when the laws started punishing the victims more than the criminals.
-
so now we have children who are entitled to do a drive by on themselves?

Fixed it.
Why do I have visions of the kid doing drive-bys on his Big Wheel ?

It's like Lord of the Flies....

It has nothing to do with morality. As long as there's enough food, the average age of reproduction for a species or a community is lower than the average age one is removed from the gene pool, in this case, death or incarceration, it will thrive.
Large segments of the population have also divested themselves of two parents being needed to raise offspring "successfully" at least by their standards.
I think it's a misconception that evolution micro or macro strives for perfection, all that is required is adequacy to the biological challenge at hand and passage of genes. Good enough truly is the enemy of best.

errr, actually child protection would be able to take the whole happy family if this happened a two years ago.
and speaking of parents, where are the grandparents? or should i just not bother?

Ballers have more panache. It's the hats.

It's like Lord of the Flies....
More like West Side Story, if Whatshisname and Maria survived and had a kid.
-
They care about their son's future, like yuppie parents plan for college. What's wrong with that?

Foolish nave, that would be Larkspur. Home of Good King Henry's summer festival and Tournament of Arms.
Ghetto Del Comercio lies just west of the old Rocky Mountain Arsenal site and is home to may fine upstanding meth heads, gangbangers, undocumented laborers and the many litters of spawn. I'm not overly surprised that such occurred in that burg, only that its FINALLY made national news.

Because they probably train him to do so...

Wow, the only thing I can even remotely compare this too was when my friends parents argued about which church he would attend, Baptist or Catholic. Even then it had only gotten as far as slightly raised voices.
