What a rathole of a city.  To think that my father was almost transferred there in the mid-70s.  Ugh!

I shudder for the good people in Detroit.

Some woman on the St. Louis City Council (or was it the school board?) actually went no. 1 in a trash can, while speaking in front of the council, so that she would not have to yield the floor.

We call John Conyers "Red" Conyers here in Michigan because he's a communist.  The shame of it is that our whole state is held hostage to the socialists and political criminals in Detroit.

It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

Nice to see her being a good, responsible adult and teaching those kids that what is "right" or "wrong" changes depending upon how you "feel" at any given moment.  Ie: "I was frustrated, so what I did wasn't technically wrong."  Gotta get them started on that road to to Moral Relativism as early as possible.

He has always voted to preserve the Constitution, cut government spending, lower healthcare costs, end the war on drugs, secure our borders with immigration reform and protect our civil liberties.

Serious query, not being an ass: are they (council) just afraid of her because she is a black woman in Detroit?

I should think not.  In my recollection, black women outnumber white men (if that's the "They" you're getting at) in Detroit.  And her display was anything but frightening, it was infantile.

edit to add....
That eigth grader had more sense that the councilwoman.  Did you see that self-satisfied look whenshe was not intimidated by the not-so honorable congresswoman's manipulations?

Monica was the one that started a drunken brawl at a Detroit dive last year, and then tried to pin it on the victim.  If I remember correctly, she also tried to claim that Hizzonor Kwamme tried to rig her office chair as an electric chair to kill her.

Yeah, and in the city, you can't just go out and fire your guns in the back yard.

Oh never mind, you were in Detroit.   laugh

Because the people of Detroit keep electing people like her into office. Her attitude is typical for the politicians of Detroit.

Same reason the mayor hizzoner Kwame Kilpatrick is still in power.  If youre not familiar with the details of that train wreck, a little research may shed some light.
Same reason Coleman Young was mayor for over twenty years.  Look into Maverick Oil Corporation.

It's a Detroit thing.  Accelerated decay of the physical, economic and societal environment fosters delusional thinking and widespread apathy.  Recall Neros fiddling;  Recall Let them eat cake.

Her ramblings fit fully into the Look here, Im being oppressed.  This is oppression.  Im being silenced model.  The residents of the once-fair City of Detroit eat that stuff up, because after all, its not their fault the place is a cesspool.

Yea, what Bob said.

Andanotherthing, her hubby http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Conyers is a 43 year liberal congressman.  That's right, hes been in office for 43 years.  Since before the riots.

He represents all that the federal government can do to help her constituents.  Omygod, boot monica and john may cut the umbilical cord of entitlements and pork.

According to the link provided (take it for what it is) Monica is "Being investigated".  The investigation will go nowhere.

That woman is dead behind the eyes. There's just nothing there at all. How she got to where she is today.... Looks like she's certainly not alone.

politically incestuous.
But you repeat yourself.
Seek out wisdom in books, rare manuscripts, and cryptic poems if you will, but seek it also in simple stones and fragile herbs and in the cries of wild birds. Listen to the song of the wind and the roar of water if you would discover magic, for it is here that the old secrets are still preserved.

Up from the cellar!!

http://www.freep.com/article/20090626/NEWS01/90626024/

Conyers faces five years in the big house for accepting cash-filled envelopes from a sludge hauler in a McDonald's parking lot.

Quote
In court, Conyers’ combative demeanor was gone, replaced by soft-spoken resignation as the judge and his staff several times asked her to speak up.

Monday, she resigns.

There are lessons to be learned here.

There are lessons to be learned here.

One of the main lessons I see is that admitting to accepting bribes and comitting a federal crime does not necessarily disqualify you for office:

Quote
"Regardless of what various legal opinions may say, it is my opinion that in pleading guilty to a federal crime Ms. Conyers has essentially forfeited her seat," Cockrel said at a news conference.  He added council would continue to work as if Conyers' seat was vacant.

Cockrel said should Conyers decide not to resign, he was ready to draft resolutions to remove Conyers from all committees and the council itself.  Cockrel said the language would include retaining attorney Bill Goodman "for the purpose of pursuing forfeiture proceedings should they become necessary."

Cockrel said he spoke with Conyers Sunday evening, and she told him it was her intent not to resign immediately, but to first take some time to confer with her family.

At least she is "planning" to resign.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought
