Two teens wounded in Chicago as customers dive for cover behind tables

CHICAGO - Frightened customers at a crowded Chicago pizzeria dove for cover behind tables and chairs as a gunman opened a door Sunday evening and began firing inside, killing one teen and injuring two others, police and a restaurant employee said.

People were panicking. Everybody jumped under tables and some people ran out the back, said Lorena Sanchez, a cashier at Pizza Nova on the citys West Side.

Around 50 people were in the pizzeria when a lone gunman flung open the door and started shooting, Sanchez said. The shooting lasted for at least several minutes, she said.

The guy shot five or six times, she said, speaking by telephone from the restaurant, which remained open Sunday night. (The gunman) got away.

No suspects were in custody and the motive in the attack wasnt clear, police said Sunday.

Its possibly gang related. But that hasnt been determined, said police spokesman Hector Alfaro.

A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed, while two men  ages 18 and 19  suffered gunshot wounds, said another police spokesman, John Mirabelli. The two injured teenagers were in stable condition, he said.

50 People there cringing, defenseless all because the Monster Mayor of Chicago wants it that way.

Imagine if just one of those 50 had a CCW license and was carrying what might have been instead of what was? Imagine if 5 of those customers had been armed; imagine if half had been armed because CCW was legal and Mayor Daley wasn't such a dictatorial freak.

But then the article must be fiction or a lie to keep the sheople in Chicago scared because we all know that Chicago is a gun free paradise.

Imagine the perpetrators more hesitant to do such things because of a general climate of armed self-defense.  Imagine they or their fathers had been justifiably killed long ago by an armed citizen.

Imagiine a John Lennon song about people being able to defend themselves with tools suited to the job.

But I agree it is a pity that a city thinks it is better to have innocent people be defenseless than allow them to shoot back.

You're missing the point - this way, only one side was hurt. If people were able to fight back, then both sides could be hurt, doubling the potential violence. And if the perp were to actually be killed, then that would be depriving him of his right to a fair trial.

(Hey, don't get on MY case, or debate this with logic, reason, and sanity - Chicago politicians actually do think that way.)

It's hard for a criminal to perpetuate a cycle of violence when he's bleeding out on the sidewalk and a legal CCW holder is rapidly proceeding to fit the thug's pistol to a rather uncomfortable place, sideways.
