Please pray for strength for me
« on: September 26, 2007, 10:50:54 PM »
I'm using a fake username. Any of the computer experts coulld probably stll figure out who I am.

I've been a drunk for the last 25 years. Only my wife and my best friends knew. But the neighbors knew, because they saw me bringing a case of beer home every three or four days. And so the wife has had to take some of the abuse that my neighbors wouldn't say to my face. "How come your husband has beer in his car all the time?"

Its reached the point where I have to stop. I have an appointment with an addiction therapist on Monday.

I'm really looking forward to the appointment. I guess I'm hoping that he will tell me something easy, but I guess not. I know it won't be easy.

I'm not looking for sympthay. Just a few prayers that I can be strong enough to beat this.

Prayers sent. It'll be hard, but you can do this.

NobodyForNow,

I'll be sure to say a prayer for you tonight.  My dad works as a 5th step (of the 12 steps) counselor at a treatment center and has shared some of his experiences with me.  You can quit drinking.  Deciding to pursue it on your own is the first step.  God bless.

The hardest step is complete.

That is to admit that you have a problem.

Good luck and remember we are your friends and family on here.
There are five things, above all else, that make life worth living: a good relationship with God, a good woman, good health, good friends, and a good cigar.

I'm pulling for you.  It sounds as if you have completed the most important part, you want to quit.

You've made a really important first step.  Now it's just one foot in front of the other, and you CAN do it.  God Bless You!

Its reached the point where I have to stop. I have an appointment with an addiction therapist on Monday.

Good for you!  Realizing and admitting you have a problem is the first, crucial step towards recovering.

I don't think anyone needs to pray for you to "get strength".  You already have it, and you're starting to find it.  I think you'll do OK Smiley

My brother and my brother-in-law are both alcoholics (BIL is also addicted to cocaine and crack cocaine).

Both of them have been admitted to treatment centers. But that didn't work. Why? Because they didn't want to quit, and they only went to the treatment centers because the courts ordered them to do so.

You've already decided that you want to quit, and you're going for counseling because you want to. That's the reason why you will succeed.

Prayers going up for you now.

NobodyForNow,

I fully understand what you're going through.  The hardest part of addiction recovery is resolving to quit.  If you truly have made that decision, the rest won't be so hard.

Also, you have some nosy neighbors who need to mind their own damn business. angry  Unless you drink and subsequently audition for a COPS episode in full view of the neighborhood, they have no place saying anything to your wife about you bringing beer home.

Good luck in your recovery!

Your life belongs to you, not John Barleycorn.

God bless you and never forget that if He knows how many hairs are on your head, He will never fail to provide you with His grace and his power in your struggle.  My prayer is that you will find the will to accept His power.
