Thing is, Ahmadinejad hasn't really perpetrated anything. The guy didn't invent or impose sharia in Iran, nor does he have any kind of role in enforcing it. The man is a belligerent nationalist politician who's made his bones on being a 'proud Iranian' and standing up to America, of course he'll defend anything that goes on. (We were the culture that invented "my country, right or wrong," weren't we?)
His apparent views on social justice are no worse than any of our allies (or enemies) in the region: but I rarely see those complaining about Ablahblahblah talking about the evils of the Kuwaiti rulers, the House of Saud, certain groups of friendly Iraqis, Musharraf, etc. et al. Only difference is, Ablahblahblah isn't feeding us oil, or protecting our access to oil, or pretending to be our friend. At least Ablahblahblah gets to be the most visible backwater reactionary of a (mostly) functioning democracy - our backwater reactionary friends don't bother with that.
