I just downloaded the cookbook from the link.  Some good looking recipes in there, I thought.

Think I paid $2.50 for it.  It has some true gourmet recipies like Chicken Marengo.  Sadly, Osso Bucco back then was made with the parts nobody wanted - today oxtails are going for over $6/pound!

Turns out this guy http://www.amazon.com/Frugal-Gourmet-Jeff-Smith/dp/0517203650 was a pederast, but his tv  shows are still available on YouTube if you do not feel like contributing to his victims' compensation fund.

Eating good for not a lot of money is different from eating cheap.  I'd rather buy whole fryers at $0.49/# and cut them up for 6 or 8 meals than spend $6 for one 6 oz. hormone-filled chicken breast that someone else has boned and skinned for me.
