  • What if we tried more?
Just keep any business selling them from being able to get a bank account.

It's getting press now because it's being used against porn stars, but the basic principle is that Eric Holder's DoJ is pressuring banks to refuse accounts with businesses involved in activities it considers a "high risk" of money laundering.  ;/ We won't see legislative gun bans pushed through any time soon, but the unaccountable impossible to fire bureaucratic drones in the myriad fed.gov departments? They can do whatever they want at no risk to themselves.

Maybe I should open the "FU Bank".  "If you are in one of those listed industries, we want your business."

I should probably open it off-shore so I don't get JBT'd every other week.
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

High risk of money laundering? Funny, I don't see lawmakers or PACs for lawmakers on the list.

Isn't the porn industry very lucrative, with many legitimate business generating millions in tax revenue in the process?

They should be careful what they wish for.

Sum up the total net worth/activity in billions of FRN's for those "industries", and then think about what kind of gravitas they'd give BitCoin or some other system vs. the Fed Reserve.

I promise not to duck.

So the Feds want all their accounts closed?

"Coin Dealers" . . . so numismatists are now suspect; can philatelists be far behind?

"Pharmaceutical Sales" . . . adios to Walgreens, CVS, Rite-Aid, and grocery stores with their own pharmacies.

"Ammunition Sales" . . . Walmart, Academy and Dick's better get their own banks.

I believe they mean they intend on harassing small businesses and future competition for the listed large corporations.

Which is always the unintended (ha!) side effect of regulations.

DOJ Tells Banks to Shut Down Immoral Client Accounts (Pornstars)
« Reply #15 on: April 30, 2014, 05:25:56 PM »
Government is now so deeply entwined with our banking and unaccountably so, I guess I should have seen this lack of propriety coming.  I wonder if the next high risk industry is bartending or gun sales.

I can easily envision the government mindset that all money is their money and the regulation of it is their due concern. I just happen to think that is unAmerican.  Money is supposed to be the most basic example of fungibility; anyone's is as good as anyone else's.

Apparently a 2013 program by the DOJ is continuing to expand.  'Encouraging' banks to cease doing business with 'high risk' individuals; an example being any associated in any fashion with 'high risk' industries.

Government is now so deeply entwined with our banking and unaccountably so, I guess I should have seen this lack of propriety coming.  I wonder if the next high risk industry is bartending or gun sales.

Isn't that the argument they made in the bitcoin thing? That they solely possesses control of money?
