Sorry Greta, looks like we've been on a mostly steady decline since 2006
Now the chart says from energy consumption. Anyone have a trustworthy chart for total?
US carbon dioxide emissions hit a 27-year low last year and are projected to continue to decline, the result of increased use of natural gas, renewables, and energy efficiency. pic.twitter.com/I1NTxPyckm

How are China and India doing?
China reports that they are CO2 negative, and don't question the report.
As for India, I'm still on hold with tech support.

Capitalism drives efficiency which lowers emissions.
Capitalism raises living standards which lowers birth rates which reduces demand which reduces emissions.
Nuclear power and capitalism are going to save the world. Luddite collectivism will not.

All true. Moreover, when someone is starving and freezing they'll kill whatever they can to eat and burn whatever they can to stay warm. If slash and burn is how you can get the cropland to survive the next year, that's what you'll do. When someone is not living under privation they begin to appreciate the benefits of clean air, clean water, green spaces, etc. With prosperity comes the demand for ecological responsibility.
