The first thing I think of when I hear the phrase "lean forward" in this context is that lean forward = progressive = leftist. That's just me though.

Sorry. The tag line makes absolutely no sense to me.
Neither does "Giving the story fewer places to hide".
Especially considering it is MSNBC.
Please don't bother trying to explain it to me. I don't want you to hurt yourself.
stay safe.

Lean too far forward = Falling on your face.

Seeing those old-style propaganda posters always crack me up. I see that the Madison poster is a modern take on the style.

Lean forward? Is that some sort of euphemism for leaning left? Is that supposed to be some lefty code lingo that rightwingers like me don't uderstand?
Why fool around with the pretext? Why water it down? They should just honestly declare themselves a left-leaning news/opinion organization and make the most of it. It'd probably do 'em some real good.
I'm not trying to criticize MSNBC for being left-leaning. I agree with their marketing guy when he says that you make more money when you're direct and honest about yourself and your product. I'm just perplexed that they seem so tepid about following their own best advice.

You have to lean forward to bend over. (prison context)

The tagline “defines us and defines our competition,” said Phil Griffin, the president of MSNBC
I love that "explanation". I think I will start a news outlet for good news. Our catch phrase will be "cute puppies and sunny days". When people ask what it means I can honestly tell them, as MSNBC does, that people like those things so we repeat them to extract more money from our base. Ahhhhh, there's nothing like the smell of liberal money in the morning.

I lean forward when I'm about to puke . . .
Coincidentally, watching MSNBC gives me that feeling.
-
Yes, given their proclivity to all things leftist/socialist, "Bend Over" would have been too obvious.....
