Sitting at work talking to a couple of coworkers. One asked "you feel that?" Actually, I just felt a bit woozy, didn't feel the shock yet, then it kicked in. Went on long enough for us to decide to go stand in doorways.

Just one more Californian, messing up Las Vegas.

Looks like it was actually decent size, especially at the CA epicenter.

Yeah, if you don't have much earthquake experience (i'm from Ohio, not California) it's quite a unique little ride. I'm still amazed at how I felt queasy/disoriented before I really felt the quaking.

I had one when I was in San Francisco a few years ago. It happened while I was sleeping. I remember waking up, realizing it was a quake, thinking "this feels nice," and going back to sleep.

I was in San Diego when a 3.5 hit about 8 miles away at 0'dark thirty. It woke me up, and for a few seconds I thought there was an intruder in my hotel room who'd bumped into my bed!

I got splashed while sitting on the pot during one of the "water injection" quakes from Rocky Mountain Arsenal.

Damned annoying.

On the other hand, I reckoned I now knew what a bidet was like, and I figured a small series of quakes due to lubrication was better than the stresses building up to one BMF one. Stick-slip rather than stiiiiiiiick-SLIP.

When I was stationed at Moffett Field and lived in Santa Clara would feel small ones all the time. I would wake up to the hanging drawer pulls on the dresser rattling and depending on how loud I would always go back to sleep. During the day time our indicator was the hanging lamp over the dining room table. We would try to guess how big it was depending on noise or swaying. You just get used to them which will probably be the downfall of a lot of people when the big one hits, they will ignore the first shaking but when it gets stronger and longer they will be screwed as their building collapses around them.

I was in Pasadena for the Northridge quake. Slept through it but felt the aftershocks. Our house was damaged and we couldn’t use our parking garage for months.

I was living in Ventura for that one and went a couple of days without power. First time I realized how fragile the grid is. Cascade failure through a couple of substations knocked out my power, while people closer to the epicenter still had electricity.

I need to call my dad this morning. Not a lot of damage where he is, but Highway 99 there took some damage, so they must have been shook pretty good.

I just ready where they are attributing a death in Pahrump, NV to the last big shake they had (the 7.1 one) in California. They believe he was under his Jeep (on jack stands) and it was shaken off of the stands and onto him. Now that is bad luck!
