Sarah Brady is a life-long republican too. Enjoy knowing that.

What, is he clearing the decks so Obama can appoint him to head the ATF after Melson resigns?
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

Helmke leaving Brady Camp; Melson clings to ATF post

Paul Helmke, president of the anti-gun Brady Campaign who tried to stir up a boycott of Seattle-based Starbucks Coffee last year because it caters to armed patrons, has announced he is leaving that job in July.

I do suspect some skullduggery in regards to Helmke and the soon-to-be-vacant ATF director position, with Obama in the White House.

Something along the lines of an appointment during a Congressional recess.

Never thought of him as the new gruppenfuhrer of the Waffen BATFEces, but it kinda fits.

It would also leave no doubt as to the direction this admistration is heading regrding gun rights.

He's being forced out.  Why leave a sweet job before he can cash in big time.

I agree.

Although (by their standards) I don't even think he did anything wrong per-se. Hopefully it's just musical chairs to look like they're "doing something"... anything, to buy a little time from donors, or board members who are unhappy, or ready to give up.

Kind of like how MLB teams will fire various managers midway through a failing season, even if he's not to blame.

One can hope.
I promise not to duck.

Haven't kept tabs on their funding, have ya?   Their donations are sharply falling.   Probably won't be able to afford six figure salaries soon enough.

The professional-gun-control movement - Brady, the VPC, etc. - are at death's door.

This should be the time for groups like NRA, SAF, etc. to show some leadership and start working on measures to roll back restrictions - even in a 'moderate'  way.

Huh, I guess you're right.

How to say this...  Some folks think a number of Brady folks don't care about gun control one way or the other.  They're paid to hate firearms, and it's basically just a job to them.  Do very little, and get well paid for it.  It's not that rare in such advocacy organizations.

In fairness, a fair percentage of the NRA is the same way.  Hence why they will on occasion screw over their members.  FUD gets more donations than minor but important pro-active steps.  I'm not saying they're bad folks, or net-negative to RKBA.  Just that it happens in advocacy groups.  After a while, staying in business is more important than doing what you claim to be doing.  Not for everyone in the organization, but at least some of them.

They may call themselves a charity, but they're really a political lobbying group.
