Az, yes. If you're going to be towing an automatic RWD vehicle any distance over a couple of miles, you certainly should remove the driveshaft. Otherwise, as the rear wheels turn, the differential will spin the driveshaft, and that will spin the transmissions outputshaft, and the gears splined to it. (Usually, the input shaft is engaged to the output shaft by internal clutches, so usually, that won't be turned.) The front pump will NOT be turned, so there will be no transmission fluid pumped through it, so no lubrication is possible. Therefore, you have metal parts rotating with no lube.
