Title: Image Posting Problems
Post by: HankB on April 10, 2024, 11:42:55 AM
Has anyone else had difficulty attaching images from their PC here on APS?

Usually it's easy - just go to attachments and other options below, browse to your image and attach it. As long as it's less than 128KB and in an approved format, you're done.

But the last few days when I try posting a single image, I just keep getting error messages. (I have NO problem attaching images to outgoing emails, either inline or as attachments.)

Yes.

Yep,  It looks like the APS side isn't allowing the upload to start, so the whole process times out and you get an error.

I haven't had a problem with posting images using the URL link of the image on the web.

I just can no longer upload an image - even a .jpg or .png that's considerably SMALLER than 128KB - from my PC.

Yeah it's the file uploader that isn't working.

HTML embeds work fine, because that's not putting images "in the post" (on APS's server), it's telling the software to go and fetch the image from a URL every time the post loads.

Interesting.  It looks like it's having trouble finding the tmp_dir.

Also, it is sometimes complaining about low disk space but that doesn't seem to be impacting everything.

Are we actually low on disk space, or does it just think we are?

That's a good question.  The error is appearing when attempting to write to the audit log, so maybe the audit logs are going to a different device.  I don't have the level of access that would let me run the necessary commands to say for certain.

Looks like the upload temporary directory isn't defined in the PHP configuration, but I'm not sure why that would suddenly be an issue.

Without full server access I'm hesitant to try something that might cause more issues than I can resolve.  Oleg's new server guy isn't regularly available, but at some point I might try forcing a value for the upload temporary directory.

Well, if the website goes down, at least we know who to blame......
